[history]
A plot is being organized to replace Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf with the nuclear engineer who sold the country's secrets to America's self-avowed enemies, according to one of the political and religious leaders involved.
Details of the plan were discussed at a meeting in late February in Akora Khattak, near Peshawar, following the death of the wife of Sen. Sami ul-Haq, vice president of a coalition of six religious parties known as the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), said a politician who attended the meeting.

A coup is not like a wedding, you don't send out engraved invitations.
A plot foiled or disinformation?

To tell the truth, that would be a step in the right direction. Then we could have clarity at last.
Then our enemies would try like hell to kill us instead of pretending to be our friends in an effort to buy time, and we could quickly nuke them back into the stone age before they were able to nuke us.
It's coming to that sooner or later. Let's just get it over with while we have the might and they don't.

The MMA coalition has also denounced Gen. Musharraf's orders for the Pakistani army to collaborate with the United States in the manhunt for al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and his deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri. Apparently the MMA isn't with us, thus they are against us.
General Musharraf, is showing himself to be one who is starting to see the war on terrorism as a road to peace and stability.

and we could quickly nuke them back into the stone age before they were able to nuke us. Not an option, as the carpet bombing of Baghdad wasn't an option.
The solution will come and when it does, it will be long before anyone nukes us (on a grand scale anyway) and will be a solution that has consideration for the innocent who may happen to be in the cross fire.

Agreed.
I also yearn for clarity instead of this half-step effort of trying to win hearts that are made of stone and limited military intervention that amounts to killing a swarm of flies while eggs are laid everywhere.

Oh now, that's really brilliant thinking, and then we can nuke Iran and nuke Syria and Saudi Arabia and Egypt and Algeria and Afghanistan and Russia and China and, oh let's not forget to nuke France, too.
You've just demonstrated the wisdom of why, those who control our nations nuclear stockpile, are subjected to such thorough psychological testing.

Did Dan Rather find him for an interview? Funny how the "Journalists" can find these fugitives, and then they cannot share the information with the USA.....

Nuking them isn't an option, but if Musharraf did fall to these guys, we should rush in to Pakistan's NW Frontier & finish the job on al Qaida like we should've done all along. Protecting Musharraf from this exact coup scenario is the only reason we don't step across their border when chasing al Qaida in Afghanistan.
I say we rush in there quickly as soon as the coup happens, rout al Qaida, and get out before the new government has a chance to retaliate in a big way. (They may have nukes, but they can't exactly target the US with them.)
I think none of the responses we could make to this scenario are appealing. If we did invade Pakistan's NW Frontier, much of the Pakistani armed forces would turn against us. That would be ugly. But if we did nothing, al Qaida and/or the Taliban would have free reign of the region, even more than they do now. That would be coyote ugly!
I'd say we should work to topple the coup in order to defend democracy, but Musharraf wasn't elected to his position in the first place. (But he is the closest thing to a friend that we could hope to have from Pakistan.)

Funny how the "Journalists" can find these fugitives, and then they cannot share the information with the USA.....I can think of more appropriate terms for the journalistic ambitions of some in the media than the term "funny".
