Thanks for finding the Wanniski quote. Here's the problem. He says:
Population under 1300K
Registration of 1000K
Turnout Over 70% of registration.
If you go to census and SecState figures, you find that, instead, as of 2000,
Population 1518K
Registration 1025K
Turnout 442K Gore + 99K Bush + Minor = Turnout a bit over 50%
So, he's just way off. I've looked at the indivudal ward figures, and the few wards that got into the mid-60s in turnout were mostly the better-off white wards.
Many of the votes cast and counted in Philly,Chicago, and other urban areas are registered to non-residential addresses. I.E. Warehouses, factories, office building, even empty lots. In these "empty" precincts the turn out might be only 25%, but 90% of that number are fictitious. Hell, the MAYOR of Detroit admits there are 150,000 bad registrations in his fair city!
OK, so the turn out is a mere 40%, of that 40%, what percentage are non-existent, dead, or multiple absentees? We'll never know. The rolls must be cleaned and verified. In places where absentee ballots are misused (everywhere) ban them for a couple of election, except with a doctor's note or certificate of military service.
I, me, KB, have lost a school board election in which the total number of votes cast, exceeded registrations. And that ain't apocryphal, or anecdotal. That's arithmetic.
I once did win an election as "Judge of Elections" (landslide) and lemme tellya, the things I saw the Democrats pull would have you pulling out your hair... 40-50 illegal aliens registered from one meatpacking plant alone, using it as their common address and then absentee ballots for each from their "residence".. ballot boxes gone missing on the way to the county seat ...
Justy because JFK and LBJ are still dead, doesn't mean their tricks are no longer with us. A Daley is still alive, and with Donna Brazile out there, I am sure both Jack and Lyndon B are registered and voting ...many times and in many precincts.
