Gibson's passion film 'too Catholic'

THE controversial Mel Gibson film 'The Passion of the Christ' has been dismissed by the Evangelical Protestant Society as a 'Catholic' interpretation of events which "does not present the Gospel".

Wallace Thompson, secretary of the Evangelical Protestant Society, said the film displayed "an un-Biblical fixation on Mary, the mother of Jesus. None of this should surprise us, for both Mel Gibson and Jim Caviezel, who plays the part of Christ, are enthusiastic devotees of the traditional teachings of the Church of Rome."

He further claims that Mel Gibson "belongs to an ultra-conservative Catholic group which does not recognise the reforms of Vatican II, and celebrates Mass in Latin".

Mr Thompson says that "this malign influence of Rome ought to cause all evangelical Protestants to reject The Passion of the Christ" and refuse to be swayed by the subtleties of the alleged arguments in favour of it.

Sadly, however, it will be welcomed and praised by many who ought to know better."

Mr Thompson also says that the film is "extremely violent", and that "anyone who watches it will be shaken and possibly terrified by its graphic and bloody scenes."

I didn't say it was Mary, just that I found it interesting that a statue gracing a pope's tomb would show a woman embracing the SUN. I think I even mentioned in my first post that the statue was called 'Verita', NOT Mary...

Hey, did you know that Pope Gregory XIII had a dragon on his coat of arms? And it was Gregory that wanted the calendar changed. Just like the prophecy of Daniel talks about, regarding the beast. You say one thing and we look it up and find that your church teaches what we say it teaches. I just did a google search and grabbed the first two links I found.

But it does not say what you claim it says. The fact is, you do not possess the mental faculties to make subtle distinctions of language--or perhaps you do, but in the case of Christ's Church, you choose not to exercise such discernment.

I can't tell which, but frankly, it doesn't matter. You are motivated by dim ignorance or by hatred--not for me, no--hatred for the Church that Christ Himself founded.

Lie smear and decieve? No. I posted citation that backs me up 100%. That's called telling the truth. I documented it with church law, you bristled and shouted 'catechism'. So I posted Catechism AND church teaching both. And still you bristle. Three authoritative sources from law, to catechism through to teaching. What do we need.. the Pope to come in here and do the watusi on it for you?

Here's another referenced from the council of trent - that means we don't need the Pope because the Council of Trent has been affirmed most recently by Vatican II - again. It is binding. here ya go And here's what it says:

Holy Communion cures the spiritual diseases of the soul by cleansing it of venial sins and the temporal punishment due to sin. No less than serving as an antidote to protect the soul from mortal sins, Communion is "an antidote by which we are freed from our daily venial sins" (Council of Trent, October 11, 1551). The remission of venial sins and of the temporal sufferings due to sin takes place immediately by reason of the acts of perfect love of God, which are awakened by the reception of the Eucharist. The extent of this remission depends on the intensity of our charity when receiving Communion.

So that's Church law, Catechism, teaching, and two councils.

Ah, but, I didn't post anything foul. I post similarities between the pagan kings and the papacy. Do you find the papacy foul?

In my opinion, I find it quite a coincidence that Gregory XIII had a dragon on his coat of arms and that he happened to be the one wanting the calendar changed, thus it was named after him. Matching right up with one of Daniel's prophecies, about the beast changing times and laws. (The law that was changed was the Sabbath.)
