The actor James Caviezel, who plays Jesus in "The Passion of the Christ," met with Pope John Paul II on Monday at the Vatican. Afterward Mr. Caviezel talked with me briefly by phone from Rome. I asked him what it was like, and transcribed what he said.

I'm glad to hear this, although I'm sure he did this before Passion came out. It will be interesting to follow his career going forward. I have to say that I wasn't too impressed with the two films I've seen him in- Count of Monte Christo and Angel Eyes- but I think the problem there was the quality of the films overall and not his performance. I look forward to seeing Passion. I'm Jewish, BTW, and I don't believe the nonsense about it being anti-Semitic for a second.
We may be experiencing an incredibly powerful global movement of the Holy Spirit at a time the world seems to have finally become spiritually barren and devoid of reason.
I think "THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST" has had such impact on humanity that the forces of true evil have become completely irrational.
James Caviezel's courageous and moving performance along Mel Gibson's inspirational strength and willingness to accept the possibility of professional exile and vicious personal attacks has certainly caused me to look deep inside myself.
Enlightened Jews that I have spoken to, the ones who believe that Jesus was a real historical person who did good things, but was not Divine, have enjoyed this movie. If nothing else, the performance of Jewish actress Mia Morgenstern who plays a Jewish mother watching her innocent son suffer a brutal execution is especially poinent to any ethnicity.
SEE THIS MOVIE.
That's what I took away from the Hannity interview the other day. Not that Gibson questioned President Bush's WMD claims (which was 3 seconds of an hour-long interview), but that Mel has been very much transformed by this film (and by God) into a different person. He seems very much at peace with himself. Hannity kept trying to set Mel up to blast his critics, or at least give them one big "Who's laughing now?" Gibson refused to do it. He consistently brushed those inquiries away and said things like "I don't let that stuff bother me any more. When you dewll on it, it eats you up inside."
