"So those complaining about the use of brief images of the aftermath of the attack on the World Trade Center in early campaign ads for the president are being rather disingenuous. While any candidate who uses footage of the attacks in advertising will have to walk a very narrow line to avoid being insensitive to the victims and their families, Bushs image ads surely didnt cross it."

Because of the 9/11 images in GWB campaing ad, democrats, leftists and Kerry supporters are claiming that Bush is a liar. Supposedly he said that we would not use 9/11 as an election issue. I saw this as an editorial in a local newspaper and I want to prove them them wrong. Leadership after 9/11 was central to his job as president and the decision to pursue Hussein was not made in a vacuum, how can he ignore 9/11?
I have two question though - in discussing 9/11, GWB did say he would not not use something, anyone know what? I saw a blog that demolished the democrat claims about the lie, can anyone give me the link?
Thanks, Bill

Demoleftists know that the voters know that they are weak on the defense of this country, and any reminder of 9/11 is a reinforcement of that fact.
They'll do all they can to try to exclude it - but let 'em scream like the little children that they act like.

I THINK there was a reference to not showing the falling bodies and other gruesome images.

Pure deflection. The truth is not kind to the left so they need to ensure that the argument does not revolve around facts.

I think they had the usual Dems on the media demanding GWB would not use these images or would not even campaign on the issue. IIRC, the administration just ignored them.
They are making the accusation; they can provide the video tape of GWB making that promise.
Also, IMO, the left has used the *Bush lied* mantra so often for so long, it has become a joke and no one pays attention except the usual inculcated suspects.

I'm very surprised that the RNC has not made use of its best answer to the carping.
Do they think that FDR should not have spoken about Pearl Harbor when our country fought the Second World War? Should the country have forgotten Pearl Harbor out of concern for the dead? Or should we remember Pearl Harbor out of concern for the dead?

Besides which, it's impossible to prove a negative, i.e., that Bush didn't say something. Let them prove a positive. The more they argue and carp and split hairs about 9/11, the worse they look.

In their latest poll, the New York Times intentionally made hay with this very issue.
The poll question asked if people would be offended by the use of footage of the attack and destruction of the World Trade Center on 9/11. Then in the write up of the poll, the NYTimes stated that this question shows that people are offended by Bush's use of images from the clean-up. They are two very different things.
I think that use of footage of crashing airplanes, falling bodies, and the collapsing towers would be uncomfortable to a lot of people. Not to me. I agree with Darryl Worley. I would show the pictures every day. But to imply people would react the same to these pictures as to the images included in the Bush videos is an intentional distortion.

Bill, I don't know where to point you to check what Bush did or didn't say. But if you're researching the whole "9/11 Victim's relatives don't want Bush talking about 9/11" thing, what you're looking for is an outfit called Peaceful Tomorrows. They're a far-left group who contacted a few sympathetic 9/11 family members who didn't mind exploiting their dead relatives for political purposes, and gave the an anti-Bush script to recite. Peaceful Tomorrows is associated with The Tides Foundation, which in turn gets money from a charitable foundation chaired by Theresa Heinz's. (Peaceful Tomorrows' web site claims that they don't get any actual money from Tides, but their denial is kind of complicated and weaselly, you can see there's something they're trying not to tell you).
May not be what your after, but if your doing research, this is a lead.
