I could argue that most constituency groups habitually bound to specific political ideologies will usually continue to vote for that party unless they change their habitat. By that I mean media ie. radio stations listened to, or where one lives etc.
Have you ever listened to any of the morning shows on the hip hop stations? You can't imagine the anti-republican vitriole, it borders hysteria. Church leadership tends to run along the same lines, and the race hucksters like Jesse continually enforce the us against them. So am I surprised that minority constituent groups continue to vote as a bloc? No.
As a pragmatic voting Libertarian, I've found when pressing individuals of any background on specific issues as opposed to party identity over 90% agree with most hardline Libertarian positions. Will these people vote Libertarian, probably not. Political party's are also cultural identities. This is perfectly normal, and it perfectly normally changes as habitats are shifted.
I keep thinking one of the most effective Republican voting ads will not be a classic "proBush" ad, but one instead disguised as a full page "quiz" people can take. I think this would be especially effective in black communities, that are a voting block for Demos, but when you quiz them on issues, usually are much more conservative than they realize.
Then at the bottom it would inform you which party is most likely to support your principles.
So many people who are dyed in wool "Democrats" are amazed to find out they really are republicans. I remember a post from a black person on this forum who said he was told by CSPAN he kept calling in on the liberal line, and he obviously wasn't a liberal. And that is how he found out he was a republican.
