""Oil prices aren't rising. The dollar is falling""

partially ture but not totally. this would imply that oil and gasoline prices have been stable in the rest of the world, but they have been rising everywhere.

no oil prices have risen much more than other commodities, Larry Kudlow used such an analysis to show there is a bubble in oil, but not in other commodities.

drive less: I cut back my driving from about 300 miles per week to 250 or so.

That's one way... I've been thinking along these lines recently--

A number of alternatives become more economically viable as the price of oil goes up. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Of course if we really made any actual headway towards alternative energy sources, the cost of oil would plunge for lack of demand. Then the cycle would repeat...

I've toyed- not seriously, just as an exercise in practical engineering- with the idea of converting an old clunker auto to producer gas-- the stuff you cook off wood, coke, or other materials that give off flammable gas when heated. It worked for Great Britain in WWII.

Lord help me, I remember those- a family friend had one when I was little. Naturally I thought it was the neatest thing.

Pemex and Shell Analyze Partnership to Develop Oil Field in Gulf -- Look offshore from Tampa! About a mile, mile and a half out! There is more oil under that point that the US could ever use! Oil independence is RIGHT THERE!! But, the environmentalists and good ole boys in Pensecola would rather see Arabs take over the US before allowing access to the giants pools that exist right there!!!6 posted on 08/17/2005 3:13:36 PM EDT by Tacis

Exxon Mobil profits jump 32 percent -- I just read an article that says it could go up to $5. per gallon in 06. If that happens, I predict it will not a pretty picture for lower and middle class America.  However, I have the feeling that shopping at Walmart is part of what has caused this. China is demanding more oil to make their cheap junk.

Oil for Enron. Guess who was a player in the U.N. scandal -- Since the Oil for Food program came to an end in 2003, it has been described--accurately enough--as oil for palaces, oil for terror and oil for fraud. Now it turns out the U.N. relief program in Iraq was also oil for Enron.
