Sometimes just to see how the wind is blowing in the media, I don't listen to what they are actually saying, but instead examine their tone of voice.

I have started to notice a conflicted media. They may like the very Liberal John F. Kerry's liberalism.. but they don't like John F.Kerry the man. They are starting to think he is GASP!!!! Dumb and prone to screw up a lot. Members of the main stream media have even mentioned that Kerry's handlers has better start handling him. It occurs to them that no one would be handling him if he gets elected.

There is a interesting thing going on in media morals. For 8 years they grew to tolerate Clinton's lying and misstating the facts. They were at first disbelieving and then contemptuous of Bush. They could not believe that Dubya always says what he means and meaning what he says.

Now they are being exposed to a man who says what he thinks the questioner wants to hear. And they are not sure it is an act. They are not sure Kerry or anyone else knows what he will or will not do. Quite frankly the media seems to be showing teh beginning signs of having buyers remorse.

Is Kerry a war hero hawk or a Jane Fonda hate American type... or is he both... at the same time. Would he surrender if the US is attacked or would he fight. Perhaps he would just procrastinate. Would Kerry raise taxes or lower them? The more Kerry is challenged and put on the defensive the less the media know about him. They thought he was putting on a Clintineque act.. But they are beginning to think the only person Kerry cons is himself.

Kerry might have followed Clinton and been OK. But he is making the media uneasy. They have grown used to truth telling and they are not sure they like a liar who may not know he is lying.

It will be interesting to see what happens. If Bush and Cheney start to pull ahead as we move into the fall, watch the media turn on Kerry. It will be Kerry's fault that the left was defeated and they will destroy him. They can not have Bush be triumphant.

The media loved Kerry when he was defeating Dean.. As Bush/Cheney take him down, the media will start to hate him and blame him. It will all be his fault for making a mockery of the wonderful leftist message.

They say some Democrats are starting to feel queasy. So are their more astute leftist friends in the media.

"The charm of Richard Nixon,
The morals of Willie Clinton,
and the raw intellect of Warren Harding!"

I will go along with you on Clinton, but I think you have just insulted Nixon and Harding.

One of the things that you've touched on is buyer's remorse in the media. It's not that they weren't warned. Mickey Kaus, Democratic blogger on MSNBC online, has been all but calling Kerry a bloviating Zelig for the past three months. His guy, Edwards, tanked.

First, the slightly left of center bloggers will turn on Kerry. I've noticed this already. Kaus, Roger L. Simon, and Michael J. Totten all will have nothing to do with Kerry. Each man will probably end up holding his nose and voting for Bush. Now the loyalists will remain loyal. Keyboard jockeys at Atrios and the Daily Kos will stay with Kerry until long after he has been exposed as fraudulence personified (sort of like me in 1992. I knew Bush Sr. was headed for the tank, but I had to go out there and vote for GHWB as an act of defiance. Best vote I ever cast, imho. Well, second best, behind the absentee ballot I sent in for Reagan in 1980).

I mention the bloggers because they are the mine canaries for what the media will be saying through the summer. Morris is clueless about many things, but he is right about two things:

1. Kerry was not properly vetted after Dean imploded.

2. Bush's campaign will be negative, but only slightly so. Enough to keep Kerry alive, but wounded.

As for Kerry? He was a fool. He threw his best shots at Bush in February! The National Guard stuff should have been saved for the last week in October or the last weekend before the election. He threw his best haymakers: Bush said as much in an interview which was meant to be viewed by Kerry as a taunt. As in "Hey, asshole! Only an asshole uses his best stuff in February! You don't even belong in the same campaign with me."

Kerry is a walking pompous ass who has gone through life believing that his $4it doesn't stink. As a result, he has Al Gore disease: he goes through life thinking that he is the smartest man in whatever room he happens to be in. The sad thing is, Al Gore had "Earth In the Balance" ghostwritten to impress his friends in Washington and to prove to the chattering classes that he was an Intelleckchul. Kerry doesn't even rise to Al Gore's level of pompous mendacity: he writes bad poetry.

And like Al Gore and Ann Richards before him, he thinks that Dubya is a really, really, really dumb human being. Compared to John Kerry, of course.

When a candidate starts talking to reporters about W.B. Yeats or Longfellow on the campaign plane instead of the boxscores, every reporter's Asshat Alert should have gone off. Only now are some in the media starting to figure out, much to their horror, that the Emperor has no clothes.

The only one who bought into Kerry's Tortured Soldier Poet schtick was Maureen Dowd. That speaks volumes: about Kerry, not Dowd.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Interesting. Kerry was not their first choice, Dean was. But Dean turned out to be a nutcase the media knew could not win the election, so they had to scramble to find a viable alternative. Now they are stuck with Kerry.

Kerry reminds me of the high school or college A student who is good with words but has no soul. This kind of student impresses everyone at first, but upon further reflection it become apparent that the student is just good with stringing big words together, but isn't really saying anything. Kerry appears to me to be even more shallow than Clinton if that is possible. While Clinton took on whatever position he thought would bring him power, women and adoration of the cool people (think Hollywood and the media), he at least understood the issues well enough to be able to articualate a coherent set of policies. Kerry just seems to spout whatever at the moment might help his cause. Overtime he inevitably comes down on both sides of almost every issue.

The media are getting what they deserve. The monster that is John F Kerry is a monster of their own making. Their bias to the left artificially shifts public opinion to the left. This helps the Democrats with the moderates, but it also makes them vulnerable to selecting leftist extremists for candidates like Kerry, because the media bias also shifts the Democrats' base too far to the left. Only Gephardt and Lieberman were moderate enough to have a chance of beating W. But the media's left leaning bias has convinced the hardcore left Democrats (who are the ones who actually vote in primaries) that they are just a bit left of center. An extremist like Kerry then looks electable to them when he is not.

This is incredible. What a change in just two weeks. The RATS were savaging our president. They demanded freaking dental records. Now, Kerry is on the defensive. We are setting the tone. He is being made to like like a waffling fool. Of course, he is one.
