Gov. Janet Napolitano's spokeswoman Jeanine L'Ecuyer chuckled cautiously at the question.

"Really?" she said, laughing. "I'd never heard that rumor."

L'Ecuyer is a cagey professional. She spent a lot of years working as a television news reporter before signing on with Napolitano. Even so, I could tell by the tone of her voice that I was on to something.

How about AZ Gov Napolitano as VP . . . for Bush?

How about I put a metal bucket over my head and bang on it with ball peen hammers? How about I sit bare-assed on a hot grill? How about I drop a 45-pound York barbell weight on my foot?

All would be less painful...

If Bush needs a woman for running mate, he'd be better off with Lynne Cheney; if he needs a Democrat, he'd be better off with Zell Miller or David Schippers; if he needs a Napolitano, he'd be better off with Judge Napolitano.
