Laz, you are so correct. If you stand up for a conservative core principle that is in opposition to the administration, you are swarmed with negative comments which are absurd in every way. Principle doesn't matter, winning does, and that's all the bots know, thus why I am on the the other site more also.

I don't either. They can banish any of us for any offense they deem fit. This is a private not public entity. JR can do what he wants, when he wants. I may not agree with half of it, but when I see people sacrificing principle, it disturbs me greatly. Many of the posters here think it is more important to act like the "Moby" and "Soros" bunch than to stand on core conservative values. That is very, very sad.

With all due respect, I used my real name on this thread in the prompting box for author. As a longtime critic of scoundrels like ELFers and ALFers, I deeply believe one must be accountable for their words and actions.

I put my name to this because I have been taught many valuable things over the years by Free Republic and the good people on it. One of them was to be more responsible for my actions and to own my words.

My intentions should be to solely lay forth my opinions and fears with the cross hairs on the goal of making this forum better. I believe there are very real problems inherent with the way FR does business.

But my strongest desire is to see dialog and work to resolve them and to heal the forum in anyway possible.

It would be high tragedy for FR to sink and die, and I deeply hope that it matures and evolves into an entity that is here on line a hundred years from now in a country still strong, a Republic, with democracy it well serves. I question the ethics and actions of management and some of the most strident of informal leaders among FReepers; but I have no right to think of myself better than they or anyone else; of I commit a personal breach of ethics far worse than anything I believe anyone else here has committed.

Lighten up, Francis. I've been hanging around these environs for about six years and seen every shade of opinion, political or otherwise, freely posted. The only requirements as far as I can see are the same as those which used to apply to your average grade school playground. Comments should avoid the "seven words you can't say on television" and have at least a whiff of a relationship with reality.

Are there a few folks here who might feel comfortable in brownshirts and armbands? Sure, but IMHO they are a small minority. If you want to see a genuine group of "fascists", that is people who believe in rigid order enforced by an all wise and all powerful elite group of leaders, look around the room at your next meeting of the "Pacific Green Party", or go enjoy yourself at "that other site".

Most of the people here are strong believers in live and let live. However, there's another side to that coin, namely anyone or any authority who wants to harm me or mine, confiscate my property for the enrichment of others, or dictate how I live my life is treading dangerous ground. That isn't fascism, that is just a strongly worded expression of what individual (G*d given, not government granted) freedom means.
