". . . problem is exacerbated by state and local policies that grant costly benefits to people who violate immigration law."
Absolutely true. Washington State in 2003 courtesy of the demoncRAT governor, demoncRAT-controlled House and pub-controlled Senate gave illegal pregnant mothers more health-care coverage while many US citizens go without. Plus, the state govt gave illegals resident tuition while thumbing their noses at American citizens who pay for the benefits for illegals.

Thank you.

great post!
"Cochise's Copper Queen Community Hospital spends two-thirds of its operating income on uncompensated care for immigrants, a factor administrators say played a role in the hospital's decision to close its long-term care unit. The facility also has closed its maternity ward because of uncompensated costs."
The employers of these people should be billed for these illegal takings.

As a new resident in Colorado, I paid $1200 a month in health care premiums. I was told that it was to provide care for immigrants without health care.

Americans are forced to pay for medical care for illegal aliens while many noncriminal citizens cannot afford the same level of medical care.

Thats right. Illegals can come here, work, pay no taxes and still qualify. Family of 7 can apply for benefits and when asked for income verification only have to say they don't have any because they don't pay taxes on what they earn and they Bam! they qualify and no more questions can be asked. It is illegal to report them to another agency or ask any more questions because it violates their right to privacy.I suppose this happens when the show up at the polls to cast illegal votes in our elections also.I say send them home. The time has long passed that the idea of an illegals child being born on American soil is automaticaly an American citizen. Its not fair to the children born to citizens in this country to be forced into paying for social services to illegals. Its an old outdated policy. If we make it perfectly clear that they qualify for nothing they might not be in such a hurry to get here.

"
"Reversing the escalating burden of uncompensated health care for immigrants and illegal aliens will necessitate enforcing laws against illegal immigration; reimbursing states and localities for the costs of failures in federal immigration policy but denying reimbursement to communities that work against federal efforts to combat illegal immigration; identifying foreign users of publicly funded medical treatment (and their immigration status); establishing guarantees of medical bill payment prior to admission to the country; clarifying existing federal emergency service laws regarding the termination of a hospital's obligation for continuing care after the provision of emergency treatment to stabilize the patient.
This is not going to happen because then there would be actual numbers of the total costs. If the general public knew these numbers for fact there would be an uprising in every community against illegal aliens.
Our politicians cannot allow these true numbers to be known for their own safety and the safety of the illegal aliens." Like the 8 to 12 million number, we all know it is a number picked out of the sky but we don't have the means to prove that it is a phony. The number that I've heard whispered last fall was 28,000,000+. This number includes the "anchor babies". (No I will not reveal the name of the person who gave me the number, but he is a federal employee.)

America's health care system is in crisis: Costs and insurance premiums are skyrocketing, the number of the uninsured is rising rapidly, providers are reducing staffing and services and increasing rates, and hospitals are closing or facing bankruptcy. A "running up the health care costs that other Americans don't want to run up" Bump.
Thanks for posting this excellent article Marine Inspector. It should be required reading for anyone wondering why health care costs and medical insurance premiums are spiraling out of control.

Good post.
These stats were in the McAllen newspaper last Sunday.
Total Valley Hospitals:
Total gross patient revenue $3,837,707,747.00
Gross Medicare $1,785,718,243.00
Gross Medicaid $1,090,885,211.00
Gross self pay $311,647,112.00
Gross 3rd party payors $593,526,472.00
The source for these figures was the Texas Department of Human Resources.
The above is for 15 border hospitals from Mission, Texas to Brownsvile, texas. If you will look at the figures you will see that 75% of the health care costs is paid by the government. Probably the only reason Medicaid is less than Medicare, is the fact that it is cheaper to have a baby than a heart attack.
I agree commpletely with your article about the need to address this issue. However, I see socialized medicine on the way.
