These stats were in the McAllen newspaper last Sunday.

Total Valley Hospitals:
Total gross patient revenue $3,837,707,747.00

Gross Medicare $1,785,718,243.00

Gross Medicaid $1,090,885,211.00

Gross self pay $311,647,112.00

Gross 3rd party payors $593,526,472.00

The source for these figures was the Texas Department of Human Resources.

The above is for 15 border hospitals from Mission, Texas to Brownsvile, texas. If you will look at the figures you will see that 75% of the health care costs is paid by the government. Probably the only reason Medicaid is less than Medicare, is the fact that it is cheaper to have a baby than a heart attack.

I agree commpletely with your article about the need to address this issue. However, I see socialized medicine on the way.
