If anything, the liberal press that crucified Mel and his movie will make him their darling, now that he questions Bush.

Like anyone else, Mel has a right to his opinion. Whether I choose to agree with it or not is also my right. And for the record, I certainly haven't agreed with everything Bush has done, but he will get my vote in November.

What people fail to understand- and this is an inherent problem on FR- is that you CAN disagree with the President and STILL support him.

While I agree with you that the GOP doesn't articulate it's position as often or as vociferously as do the gimmies, I must say that everything you want, is common knowledge and has been done ad nauseam.

The only REASON that hasn't been given for going to war with IRAQ is IMHO the BEST. Iraq constinuously and consistantly VIOLATED the ARTICLES of SURRENDER from GULF WAR 1 and a RESUMPTION of HOSTILITIES by the United States was MANDATORY to make them comply with THEIR UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER TERMS.

This dispells the silly notion that this was a PRE-EMPTIVE war. How can anyone argue with the fact that we should have done NOTHING if Japan or Germany violated their UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER TERMS?

Excuse me but what does a film about Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, and President Bush got to do with it? I have friends who are Republicans, Christians, and do not agree with Bush on this issue. Why? Does it matter? I agree with the war on terror, and the war in Iraq. I disagree with Bush on immigration. I agree with Mel Gibson that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. I disagree with him on his view of the war in Iraq. We hurt our on fight against flip flop Kerry when we like someone until they flesh out their views a little more.

Actually, I have heard many rumors long before this that Mel was anti-war.

That's interesting. I haven't seen such but if you find anything post-worthy on the 'net that would be a good thread.

Your "Mel as opportunist" theory doesn't work. Mel took great risks in making the Passion.

I think probably both are true. I think there was political sentiment against making the movie, but Mel isn't completely candid about some of the denials of funding: some was about the movie being in a foreign language.

Freepers are just peeved because he doesn't follow their party line.

Are you saying he hasn't done it. How many times do you think it will take before dims and kerry supporters finally say, oh yeah, now I get it. The non believers will never believe. There is no point to explaining what has already been explained by the Pres and his supporters. You either get it or you don't.

Why upbraid them? Anyone who assumed Mel made a movie about Jesus Christ also meant he was a Republican and Bush supporter should upbraid themselves. Mel may have made some great movies, even ones about freedom and Christianity. But you should never assume anyone believes a particular way, especially in politics, when it comes to anyone associated with Hollywood.

On the other hand, like I just posted, you can disagree with Bush and still support him. Who knows for sure who Mel supports or what he believes. Maybe he's throwing a bone to Hollywood to get back in their good graces. In the end, does it matter anyway?

EXACTLY. What would be so terrible in pointing out the truth--that many, many Democrats, including Bill Clinton, said that they believed there were WMDs and that Saddam was a threat. That's not going negative, it's stating the truth.

And as for Mel's statement--it could be that he's having doubts about Bush's ability to get re-elected.

Mel is an American who lived part of his life in Australia. Mel was born in Peekskill, New York, USA.

Please do not vote for Bush. I have said before that I want kerry to win. Then I get to sit back and listening to the pissing and moaning and gnashing of teeth when taxes go thru the roof and two more ultra liberal supreme court justices get promoted. Then just for kicks he will try to take ALL YOUR GUNS uuuhhh and then he starts funding the dirty abortionists with your taxes. And then he pulls out of the war on terror and you just happen to be the next vtctim of the terror attack.

I support Bush. I like him as a person, and I feel that of the two he is the best guy for the judge. I support his position on terror, don't support his spending, and don't support his policy on immigration of Taiwan (if I read that policy right). That being said I am a registered Republican, and a Conservative. I am concerned about the WMD in Iraq, but not for reasons Gibson hints at. I feel they were there and want to know who Iraq gave them to.
