When France and Germany balked at supporting the war on Iraq, the Spanish prime minister, José María Aznar, stood publicly by Mr. Bush at a summit meeting in the Azores a year ago this week, and just days before the war began. Now voters have elected the opposition Socialists, although the center right was leading in the polls until the terrorist attack.

Spain tucks its tail and runs ... This was a headline in the NY Times? Expected something along the line "Bush Allie Folds" followed by a 900 word article on Bush's miserable failure maintaining continuity with the few European nations that supported the U.S. effort in Iraq.

I guess the Spanish as a people and a country have a poor memory for their own local history.
Does the name "El Cid" ring a bell? Do they remember that Spain was conquered by the fun loving Moors?

Actually if the Spanish judiciary had any heuvos they would nullify the election and reschedule it next month after people have had some time to mourn and think through their vote, rather than react on manipulated anti-government emotions.

What news ever comes out of Spain except for the Running of the Bulls? They send troops to Iraq get a little back bone ill prepared for any consequences, they are ripe for more of the same, f them and J Fn Kerry.
