LM here.

It's been a while since we had a thread along these lines.

I can tell from comments I am seeing in threads, on abuse reports, and in Freepmail that some people are unhappy with various policies and their implementations by the staff here.

I've seen allegations that certain factions are picked on. I've seen allegations that the moderators have killed activism. I've heard rumors that we killed Kenny, and even that we killed the radio star. I see certain personality conflicts acting up, and know that one (or both) sides in it feel that we aren't doing what we should.

So let's open this can of worms.

This thread is for making your grievances heard. If you think something stinks or is wrong, make your case here. Back it up with facts. Let the audience at large weigh in on your evidence.

I'll read the thread. Jim will too in all likelihood. So will the other moderators. Depending upon how well you make your point, and depending on if you can convince Jim, me, the other moderators, and/or the world, maybe you can change things. And if you don't, then it might make you feel better to have vented, so it won't make this thread a total loss.

I'm not going to reply to this thread for quite a while. Rather, I am going to sit back and watch to try and get a feel for the general tenor. I encourage those who are both happy and unhappy with things to particpate in this thread.

There are also threads on LP, which vilely abuse Jim Robinson, in every imaginable way. What goes on over there, should be left there and not brought here, but it is and you are part of that.

I did read further down, but later. Too late and I wished I had read down before commenting.

By the way, I do the same thing sometimes. My family and I were running errands one day and I saw a pharmacy delivery car with a "Good's Pharmacy" sign on the side of it. I said, "Look, God's Pharmacy, kinda cool". My kids haven't let me live that one down yet. :-)

Passion threads really don't belong in News.

If it's a sourced article, I say it's news. Maybe it's News/Editorial, but sourced articles, for the most part, should be considered "news". Maybe not Front Page. Maybe not Extended. But definitely "news".

Moving a sourced article to chat strictly because it is Passion related is biased, IMO. What other sourced articles get automatically moved to "chat"?

Claiming that there's no relevant connection between "activism" and the issue that the activists seek to address is an adolescently specious argument that blemishes your credibility.

If you'll bother to go back and read my posts again, I didn't make the claim that "there is no relevant connection between "activism" and the issue activist seek to address".

I made the observation that these guys were throwing a party, one you were not invited to, and you crashed it, rudely. If you're going to crash someone else's party, then be nice about it. If you're going to be arguementative, do it on the threads where such topics are being discussed, not threads created for organizational purposes.

I ask you again. What was your motivation for posting that particular comment? If it was not in alignment with the objective of the thread (organizing activism) then you butted in where you were not welcome and I maintain you should have refrained from posting that comment.

If you cannot grasp this "adolescently specious" fact, not my problem. The only blemish to my credibility may be in your specific perception, which causes me no distress whatsoever.
