"President George W. Bush in recent months initiated a national debate about how to address the issue."

For 3 years, President George W. Bush refused to discuss the situation in public!

In San Francisco, walk down the street - no one speaks English any more in California. I've signed things, demonstrated, written, called, protested, visited public officials, etc. They don't control immigration because they don't WANT to.

The Republic of The United States of America has been doomed to the dustbin of history by impotent, craven bureaucrats, self-important Socialist enablers of legal anarchy, and a fat, happy, complacent electorate that thinks it's 'not a problem' - until it spills into their community. Then, it's far too late.

"Similar to past generations of immigrants, these individuals are hard-working, highly skilled relative to individuals in their home countries, and they assimilate relatively quickly after arriving in the United States," he said. "But they are starting from a much lower educational level and a much lower wage level (relative to today's American workers), so there is a larger gap to make up."

They REFUSE to assimilate after arriving in the United States because there is NO NEED to. We provide translators for their every request.

...were among the 2.7 million immigrants who became lawful residents

...were among the 2.7 million immigrants illegal aliens who became lawful residents were granted amnesty.

...eliminating the "jobs magnet" by cracking down on employers of illegal immigrants.

Yeah, the feds really cracked down on those pesky employers.

However, the flow of people did not stop.

No, really? I hadn't noticed.

Can legalization work?

No, it can't!

"You are not going to succeed in solving this by controlling supply," Hanson said. "If the demand (of jobs) is there, supply will find a way."

Cheap labor supply and demand (INFINITE SUPPLY - INFINITE DEMAND - INFINITE SLAVE LABOR PROTECTION) ping!

"Each year, this population increases by about 350,000, according to a U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service report released last year. Mexico's share of this population increased from about half to about two-thirds during the 1990s, the report said."

Now it is one million or more...85000 a month or more!!

"Immigration experts say that in order to stem the tide from Mexico, legislators will have to consider assistance programs for regions in Mexico that are known to be the sources of migrant workers."

I must have swallowed a habenero because there's a deep burning in my gut. That's a whole new level of sheer gall.
This entire article is a classic weep-fest. Mrs. Tinoco, she of the amazing reproductive powers, is depicted in the cliche' "noble savage" mold. Gotta love how one of the litter works full time furthering the Aztlan agenda.

Put a bounty on their head....declare Open Season on illegals and have hunters waiting. I'll bet that slows 'em coming across the border.
