I'm not even sure the Tory Party is all that firm on continuing Blair's anti-terrorism policies should they somehow come to power

The Tories stand a very good chance of winning the election - though it will be close. And I can assure you that the Tories will be an equal ally in the WOT. No wobblies here!

Oh, pau1f0rd, I hope with all my heart you're right. I haven't got much confidence in our own American electorate. Right now, I'm feeling pessimistic about our elections in November. Should Kerry win, somebody someplace has got to continue the fight. BTW, thanks to their success in Spain, I have no doubt the Islamists will try to do something similar here to help get Kerry elected.

Ultimately I just think the PP had a wobbly response to the terrorist attacks and that killed them. If they had handled it the way Bush Administration was on September 11th, I think they would have shot up in the polls like Bush did at the time. When you're country is attacked, its all about looking strong. The PP govt. looked confused and in denial instead.

Looks like Spain's new PM looks exactly like Mr. Bean.

Mr. Bean was is a bumbling character on British TV, who always get himself in some type of a jam.

It was shown in the US on HBO or PBS about 10 years ago.

A bomb was just discovered outside Citibank in Greece.

Didn't take long. And yes, I think there will be a wave of attacks. I just had a long argument with a friend who calls me a pessimist, but even my friend had to admit that my bleak view is almost never wrong.

I am now willing to predict that the US will not be able to participate in the Olympics this year. There will most likely be no Olympics this year.

That's a tough call. ON one hand I absolutely agree. I'd be happy for our athletes to stay home and not face the anit-americanism that is in Greece most of the time. NOt to mention the incredible potential for terrorism.

On the other hand, if we don't go that gives the impression we're living in fear and the terrorists have won. Kind of like we were all encouraged to get back on airplanes after 9/11 and live as normally as possible. The 'best' solution might be for the IOC to cancel the Olympics but I doubt that'll happen.

The grandfather of appeasement.

The mushy spined principles he espoused are still alive and well today.

As 2000 taught... beware ya o' the exit polls. ;)

Alas, the Spanish voter gave AQ the victory it was seeking. America loses an ally on the war on terror. Those train bombing victims died for nothing. Will they attempt the same "October surprise" tactics in America?

dear madam,

with all due respect, since we're looking at numbers of losses and you state the factor of fifteen, please consider that the population of Spain stands at roughly 40 million, or a bit over 1/7th of our own population.

Multiply instead the 200 killed and 1500 wounded by 7 to get sense of what a statistically similar loss would be in our country: 1400 dead, 7500 wounded. This is their 9-11.

My intent wasn't to demean or belittle Spain's losses in that bombing, but now I'm not so sure. At this point it looks like the populace caved to the terrorists, unlike the US, who stomped on the rat's nest and haven't had another attack on our soil.

One thing Spain hasn't asked themselves yet is, "what else are we doing that offends Muslim terrorists?" Now that Al Queda can draw the conclusion Spain will cave, they're encouraged.

And what will France do if they're attacked in retaliation for banning what they believe to be religious headwear and hairstyles?
