Oh, pau1f0rd, I hope with all my heart you're right. I haven't got much confidence in our own American electorate. Right now, I'm feeling pessimistic about our elections in November. Should Kerry win, somebody someplace has got to continue the fight. BTW, thanks to their success in Spain, I have no doubt the Islamists will try to do something similar here to help get Kerry elected.

Ultimately I just think the PP had a wobbly response to the terrorist attacks and that killed them. If they had handled it the way Bush Administration was on September 11th, I think they would have shot up in the polls like Bush did at the time. When you're country is attacked, its all about looking strong. The PP govt. looked confused and in denial instead.

I am now willing to predict that the US will not be able to participate in the Olympics this year. There will most likely be no Olympics this year.

That's a tough call. ON one hand I absolutely agree. I'd be happy for our athletes to stay home and not face the anit-americanism that is in Greece most of the time. NOt to mention the incredible potential for terrorism.

On the other hand, if we don't go that gives the impression we're living in fear and the terrorists have won. Kind of like we were all encouraged to get back on airplanes after 9/11 and live as normally as possible. The 'best' solution might be for the IOC to cancel the Olympics but I doubt that'll happen.

with all due respect, since we're looking at numbers of losses and you state the factor of fifteen, please consider that the population of Spain stands at roughly 40 million, or a bit over 1/7th of our own population.

Multiply instead the 200 killed and 1500 wounded by 7 to get sense of what a statistically similar loss would be in our country: 1400 dead, 7500 wounded. This is their 9-11.

My intent wasn't to demean or belittle Spain's losses in that bombing, but now I'm not so sure. At this point it looks like the populace caved to the terrorists, unlike the US, who stomped on the rat's nest and haven't had another attack on our soil.

One thing Spain hasn't asked themselves yet is, "what else are we doing that offends Muslim terrorists?" Now that Al Queda can draw the conclusion Spain will cave, they're encouraged.

And what will France do if they're attacked in retaliation for banning what they believe to be religious headwear and hairstyles?
