Try a Spanish Newspaper if you can read it. ABC is one.

My bet is that they're probably going to have a little field day in Europe for a while because now they know they can push them around.

My thoughts exactly. Good grief, by the time a person is old enough to vote I would think he would have figured out the importance of standing up to a bully. The Spanish people have done EXACTLY what the terrorists wanted. Let's just hope that we Americans have more guts and don't tuck tail and run to the Democrats on election day.

Well we will see about that. I think what will be telling is how the German electorate acts. It could break either way. It may actually be that the will in time see that is response will not work. If they are this weak then at least we know now.

---I am so disgusted with my friends in Spain that I can hardly type. It wasn't a surprise, but I just kept hoping somehow it wouldn't happen.---

I feel the same way. When the present government turned down Israeli forensic help, it started to become clear that all was not goodness and light. The Anzar government was no bastion of strength, but this! It appears that those giant marches were peace marches after all!

There will most likely be no Olympics this year.

Boo hoo. Moving on...

This week's events in Spain have shown that the resolve of Europeans in general (and this certainly doesn't include many of the Europeans that have been posting here) is weak and they are ready to be pushed around. As you said, Greece might be next, maybe because there is a risk that the new conservative PM might be friendly to us. I hope they have more balls than Spain is something unfortunate were to occur.

South Korea elected a weak leader and we see where this has lead them. IMPEACHMENT.

Spain's financial markets will suffer greatly for having a socialist leader.

In the end, it is America that stands tall!

For now!

Perhaps we shouldn't be so surprised. The vast majority of the Spanish people were not interested in the War on Terrorism from the beginning. It's the prime minister, just like the prime ministers of Australia and Italy, who care more about defending his nation than he does about his people's childish reaction to an attack on them. These gentlemen are courageous leaders.

After all, what did the king of Spain do but call for demonstrations against terrorism--how threatening is that to the murderers? I don't recall Pres. Bush asking people to go into the streets and protest the bombings. We were told to be vigilant, and we prepared to strike back.

It's a tragedy that so many of the Spanish people don't blame the bombers. Apparently they haven't learned anything from their own history.

...they took to the streets with massive protests and with a pinch of unrest.

Yeah, as though the terrorists are going to suddenly reform because the the Spanish "protested" terrorism. What a sad, ironic, non-humorous joke. Those protests followed by today's vote are pure cowardic, plain, blunt and simple. What terrifies me is that there are tens of millions of Americans who will vote to go down that same path come November.

If we on the right side of the political spectrum don't unite and fight for Bush-Cheney like our lives, the lives of our families, and our nation depend on it, we will lose this world war the radical Islamists started.

Al Qaeda votes with bombs. They will voting again... and again...

I'm afraid you're right. They won this one thanks to the appeasers in Spain.

"I believe that Americans would not react the same way that the Spaniards have."

I used to believe that. Now more and more it looks like Americans are also a bunch of p***ies. Now, I've had a martini and I may regret saying this, but I'm starting to think that Spain and the US deserve whatever they get.

Good grief, by the time a person is old enough to vote I would think he would have figured out the importance of standing up to a bully.

Apparently, they weren't taught that on the other side of the pond. French children probably either run away from bullies or threaten that if they give them just 1 more wedgie, they'll write their ambassador to draft a UN resolution mildly chastising the bully into bewilderment within the next 5 or 10 years, pending the drafting of successively milder resolutions in the next 10 to 15 years.

Meanwhile, we're the country of Live Free or Die, Don't Tread on Me, and Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death. Makes me proud to be an American.

I don't think the brits will kowtow to the AQ...

They will once Tony Blair is no longer PM. He is the only reason the Brits have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with us. I'm not even sure the Tory Party is all that firm on continuing Blair's anti-terrorism policies should they somehow come to power.

1. For Spain, participation in the war against Islamic terror really is optional. Appeasement, a word which originally lacked a negative connotation, may well work for Spain.

2. Appeasement will not work for the US because AQ types will see us as the prime enemy regardless, and will see weakness as meaning they should renew attacks to generate further weakness.

3. I think US voters will realize that America has no place to run.

I think US voters will realize that America has no place to run.

I hope enough will to at least keep Kerry out of the White House. But roughly 100 million people vote in our presidential elections. Of those, as many as 45-50 million may vote to do exactly the same thing the Spanish just did.

How many of us on the right side of the political spectrum are going to fritter away a few percent to the Libertarians, Reform, Constitution, and other minor parties? How many are going to sit the election out over some pet peeve with the Bush administration? How many are going to delude themselves that they are "sending a message" by either voting minority party or not at all? How many registered Republicans simply won't bother to vote because they are "too busy?"

In contrast, the Left is energized thanks to their hatred of all Bush stands for, and they will get a further boost thanks to the Spanish election results.

Our November elections represent the first time all of us not serving in the Armed Forces have had to take a personal stand in this world war against radical Islamists. How many of us talk a good game on forums like FR, but won't be there when it counts come November?
