Teresa: I'll Use Ketchup Cash if Race Turns Ugly

Teresa Heinz Kerry is warning that she'll use the vast Heinz ketchup fortune to repel personal attacks by the Bush campaign - insisting for the first time publicly that there are legal ways around the campaign finance laws that could allow her to spend far more than the $2,000 legal limit to get her husband elected.

Asked last week if she had decided to spend "any of your own fortune" on the presidential race, Heinz Kerry initially told National Public Radio's Renee Montagne, "I cannot, by law; $2,000 is it, and I've said that so many times."

But in the next breath the ketchup heiress warned, "Any time the honor of my family or myself is trashed, I will do what any American would try and do, which is to fight to redeem it."

"And there are legal ways of doing that," she insisted.

Heinz Kerry predicted that the Bush campaign would indeed go after her and her family personally, setting off the tripwire that would open up her $700 million pocketbook.

"I'm sure it will get very ugly and personal," she warned. "But I think . . . ugliness speaks for itself, and expensive ugliness speaks for itself even more."

Asked if she was expecting "any particular accusations, any particular vulnerabilities on your part?" Heinz Kerry told NPR, "No."

"[There are] no vulnerabilities on my part. My life's an open book. I'm honest, I work hard, I care about people, and I have hopes for the world and for us, and I think we're not being well-served and well-led."

I've already stopped buying Heinz. And now that she is using her tomato slop to try and "ketchup" with Bush, I have all the more reason.

Exactly. I'll bet the source of her "$700 pocket book" is rolling over in his grave. I am sure that he is really "happy" with the use of his family fortune.

Looks like the vast majority of products are either High in Carbohydrates, or junk food.

I never did care for Heinz - JT Pappys Hickory Heaven or Uncle Franks original LOUISIANA sauce du jour..Yeah, Baby!

Remedia is another one, for freepers outside of the US anyway.

(IsraelNN.com) The family of an infant who sustained serious brain damage has filed a NIS 2.5 million lawsuit against Remedia in the Tel Aviv District Court.

The suit follows two class action suites already filed against the company which marketed the soy based milk substitute baby formula that led to the death and illness in infants due to a lack of vitamin B1.

What would happen to Heinz if a Vast Right Wing Conspirator's boycott of Heinz products happens?

Heinz the company would be hurt. If the boycott were to occur before November, Kerry would be helped by a sympathy vote. As for the rich Heinz family members who support the foundation, I seriously doubt their portfolios are any longer all that heavily invested in Heinz stock, but if someone knows how to look this up and can prove me wrong, please do.

Oh. By the way. What with George Soros, Kerry has all the soft money he can use. I don't think Kerry will let his wife risk bad publicity from appearing to be buying her husband the election. Plus, what with the Kerry's expensive tastes and their not even being billionaires, I'll bet John Kerry is just plain too cheap to waste the family fortune on what he knows deep down is a long-shot campaign. (Although if the Socialists win in Spain today, it will look less of a long-shot. An Al Qaeda October suprise worries me more than meaningless pre-convention polls.)

Just went to Heinz website and sent them an email. Told them I won't be buying any Heinz products because of Mrs. Theresa Heinz (f'ng) Kerry.

Bring it on nit wit!!!

Why a nit wit? If we go after her hubby gets a sympathy vote. It sure worked for Bill Clinton.

John Kerry will probably be asking Teresa not to talk this way. If so, the husband is the nitwit and the wife the campaign genius.

SEE THE DAVID BROOKS OP-ED COLUMN IN SATURDAY'S THE NEW YORK TIMES

I am sure this was not the response Brooks wanted. Boycott = sympathy vote. Teresa is a tigress who thinks for herself and cannot be led by her husband. But she is no idiot. You are falling for this trap where she is trying to become the Hilliary Clinton of the over-65 set. Meanwhile, she probably has almost all her, and her foundation's, money in index funds and is laughing all the way to the bank.

...and don't forget: when at a restaurant or fast food joint, and they ask you if you want ketchup, ask them what brand, and if they say "Heinz's", tell them "No thanks", and tell them why...

Most of the ugliness in this rave would disappear immediately, if a paper bag was applied over the head of a certain candidate, and a piece of duct tape was applied over the pie hole beneath his up in the air blue nose.
