FORT IRWIN, Calif. (AP) - Army National Guard troops headed for Iraq got an upbeat send-off from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who praised them as "the true terminators."

The governor presented U.S. and California flags to the National Guard's 81st Separate Armor Brigade, which is deploying overseas for the first time since the Korean War.

lol

The Dole project shows "people have confidence in California again, they have confidence in the California economy."

That's "our" Arnold.

Aronld is "the man"! Not only is he a natural-born leader, but he also happens to be a nice guy. His aura of optimism and positive energy is truly contagious and having him in charge of California is a blessing... Yes, he might have been born abroad, but he is a real American!

I saw Neil Cavuto interviewing Arnold on TV this week and I think Arnold has a brilliant mind and will be a force to be reckoned with. I wish they could change the constitution so that you have to be a US citizen for 35 years, not necessarily born here.

I have always said the number one thing a President has to do is project competence and leadership. After that, of course, he has to actually DO something. The same goes for a Governor. Just look at the difference between Arnold and Gumby!

May God go with the California Guard.I appreciate the morale boost of the Governor.I had my doubts about Arnold but he does bring something that California needed.

I appreciate Schwarzenegger taking time to give our National Guard troops a respectable send-off. His words, and his presence alone let them know that their service is honorable and appreciated at the highest levels of state government. That is important.

As for the 1400 new jobs at the hotel-spa, I'm sure many Californians will be thrilled to hear about new openings for illegal immigrants. They'll get the lion's share of these jobs.

It didn't say exactly where in California this groundbreaking took place. I hope it's close to the high desert. That area needs more than just 1400 jobs.

That would be nice, if they are short of them out there. Good luck.

Hahaha, it will take more than luck. That area has been the collective thumbs of the AQMD, EPA,& BLM for years. I remember years ago, a Target store was opening in Apple Valley. More than 500 people showed up to apply for jobs. It was summer and the fire dept had to show up because people were getting sick.

If only all those little Banana Republics out there hadn't screwed up the marketing of George AFB, (especially Adelanto), the area might not have been so devastated job wise...

Wasn't Adalanto going to be a great big outlet site? That would have been nice.

Outlet center? Yeah, I remember that one. I also remember when they were going to actually get a real grocery store. That was 25 years ago. No Stater Bros, Food 4 Less, etc, to this day. There is a small group of people that run that town. I lived there briefly, 25 yrs ago. Like I said, Banana Republic.

Schwarzenegger told of his own service in the Austrian military as a tank driver and noted that he arranged to send weights to troops during the 1991 Gulf War.

Arnold's old American-built M47 is now in a private collection/museum in Ohio. The two old soldiers still get together sometimes.

What a great thing for him to do and I'll bet the troops really appreciated it.
