A MALTESE-FLAGGED oil tanker carrying an estimated 80,000 tonnes of oil collided today with another vessel off the coast of Oman leaving one crew member missing and causing a fire and a light oil spill, an official said.
The tanker, called Everton and carrying a 45-member multi-national crew, collided with what was believed to be a Korean-flagged fishing boat, Captain Abdul Munim Janahi, the head of the Marine Emergency Mutual Aid Centre (MEMAC) said.
One crew member from the tanker is still reported missing but a fire and oil spill as a result of the collision are now under control, he added.
The fishing boat, named Chunying, fled the scene and is being pursued by the coastguard, Janahi said.
A US warship in nearby waters responded to an SOS call from the tanker after the early morning collision, he said.
MEMAC and Omani environmental authorities are currently dealing with the limited oil spill and the few flames that were still burning early today, he added.

Yeah, right, exactly.
And they've said that many times in the last month.
Still nothing of "earthquake" proportions has happened IMHO.
