Threat Matrix: Daily Terror Threat - Thread 5
CNN ^ | March 12, 2004

Posted on 03/12/2004 8:23:06 PM PST by thecabal

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- This week's deadly train bombings in Spain will not lead to a rise in the U.S. color-coded terror threat alert system, a Department of Homeland Security spokesman said Friday.

"Based on the current intelligence, we have no specific indicators that terrorist groups are considering such an attack in the U.S. in the near term," said department spokesman Brian Roehrkasse.

"Any thoughts on the black winds of death?"

Some thoughts I had in the wee hours of the morning that took several pieces of information into account:

From the copy of the translation of the letter reportedly by AQ found in Spain:

"We say to you that the Death-Smoke Squad will reach you soon, and then you will see [i.e. count] your dead by the thousands, Allah willing, and this is a warning."

- It would cause hundreds of thousands of deaths

With the references found here, on the lamppost site, and Steve Quale's site with regard to Islam and the black wind:

1. "In Islam, the huayra yana is the black wind. In a symbolic sense, a black wind spreads similar to the act of throwing ashes into the air. The dust particles appear momentarily suspended then carried along by an invisible stream before dissipating and falling to the ground..."

- A reference to Nuclear Fallout?

2. "In Islamic eschatology, hell is pictured as a desert, scorching wind, black smoke, and boiling, bubbling water...."

3. "Hell awaits the unbelievers where they will be cast into "scorching wind and shadow of black smoke," and will drink of boiling water for eternity...."

- Shadow of Black Smoke = Reference to Mushroom Cloud?
- Scorching Wind = Reference to Blast (Shock) Wave?

- The winds caused by a blast (shock) wave can reach up to 400 mph within a 2 mile radius.

- With regard to boiling, bubbling water, if I'm not mistaken, I believe I once read/heard/learned back in high school/saw in a documentary/something that when the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, many who had survived the blast were experiencing burning, including on their faces and eyes and ran over to a river or some water source to flush their faces. Unfortunately, the water had also been contaminated and had burned those individual's further.

Eh, like I said, it was in the wee hours of the morning.

"Fox News reporting that dead animal carcasses are being used to put explosives in and detonated as roadside bombs in Iraq."

That is just disgusting.

Same thought here. It's time for some preemptive strikes- there is no way we can guard against every possible plan of attack. Problem is, where would we strike?

"Actually, I don't know if there are any 'rules'"

Thanks. Sometimes I've found posters who take offense to others using their "homework" without putting out the fact that they got it from them so I just wanted to check before I did it again.

"Your actions proved beyond the shadow of a doubt to Al Qaeda that if they kill enough people in a mass casualty attack that they can swing the popular vote. You've proved that they can influence elections."

It didn't just prove it to Al Qaeda, it proved it to terrorists everywhere, including ETA. Nothing good can come from that...maybe ETA will start rethinking their strategies now and stop giving out those warnings.

Welcome aboard! Wow, even I haven't read all of all four threads & I've been following this since November.

I know what you mean about inviting the enemy to watch how we prepare for an attack. On the other hand, if the media weren't notified that such actions were just drills, we'd have panic in the streets & outraged cries of cover-ups when word leaked out. Some people are too busy to waste time on thinking and unfortunately we have to keep them placated.

I copied this from "The Final Phase " forum- it was posted today by "Perilous Times" (perfect name, don't you think?) Perilous Times Registered User Posts: 2361 (3/15/04 15:41) Reply Russian war planes probing Estonian airspace -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Russia provoking Estonia to respond BNS news agency reported referring to the Estonian press that intrusion of Russian jetfighters into Estonian airspace, when Russian Air Force “tested” the new Estonian air defense radar in Kellavere in action, led to boisterous exchange of diplomatic notes between Moscow and Tallinn. Only last Friday Postimees newspaper reported about it saying that Estonia could have issued the first note of protest back on October 8, 2003, when a Russian warplane entered two kilometers deep into Estonia’s airspace in the vicinity of Pijrisaare and then turned back. But that time it did not go any further than a laconic press release of Estonian Border Patrol and a meeting between Estonian diplomats and Russian Ambassador in Tallinn Konstantin Provalov.

An isolated incident developed into a serious air conflict a week and a half later. Two jetfighters accompanying a Russian aerial reconnaissance plane A-50, flying from Kaliningrad, Russia (former Koenigsberg) to St. Petersburg, entered deep into Estonian airspace near the Island of Hijumaa and flew about 200 km along the Estonian north coast as far as the city of Kunda, after which they turned towards the border.

Consulting exerts at the Postimees newspaper say that Russian warplanes thus checked Estonia’s capability to control its airspace, including the efficiency of primary radar in Kellavere, whose range is 450 kilometers and which is one of the links in the tracking loop of NATO airspace.

“The crew of A-50 perfectly saw which systems were reacting to the intrusion of Russian jetfighters into our airspace, and where and how they were reacting,” one of the experts said. – “It would have been considered as a usual reconnaissance mission if it were not for the behavior of the Russian pilots, - they actually flew two kilometers away from the Parliament Palace and from the residence of Estonian government.”

Estonian authorities got irritated and issued a protest note to the Russian Ambassador in the end of last October. Three months later, in the beginning of this February Moscow denied all of the accusations in its reply. Right now Estonia is working on the note of protest in response.

Chairman of Parliamentary Commission on Foreign Affairs Marko Michelson believes that the flights of Russian warplanes over Estonia should be considered exclusively as provocative demonstration of force.

“It means that within the month remaining before Estonia joins the NATO we must come to an agreement with the Alliance about defense of our airspace by the joint forces of NATO,” – Mr. Michelson said. Estonian Foreign Ministry refused to give any comments on this subject to the newspaper.

The experts told Postimees newspaper that the intrusion of Russian planes into Estonian airspace was done for several purposes: to obtain information about the operation of the radar in Kellavere and about other similar units, to show Estonia its incapacity to defend itself from the air and to observe how far Estonian government will go in its protests against such steps.

Supposedly, a reconnaissance aircraft of Russian Air Force A-50 makes weekly flights from St. Petersburg to Kaliningrad and back and gathers the information about the Baltic States, which are joining the NATO, as well as about Finland and Sweden.

Last week Russian spy planes A-50 and SU-24MP made about a dozen of flights over international waters in the Baltic Sea within a three-day period.

Commander-In-Chief of Russia's Air Force Vladimir Mikhailov assured that these flights became a response to the demonstrative flights by NATO spy plane E-3 over the territories of Latvia and Lithuania.

Moscow claims that the NATO aircraft was exploring the border areas of Russia and Belarus. NATO officials in turn explained that the flight of E-3 was tied to testing the efficiency of BALTNET, the unified tracking system watching the airspace over the Baltic States.

It was not the first case when Russia disdains the interests of its neighbors (apparently demonstratively), which once again confirms that the declarations of the Russian Federation on the respect towards the international law are nothing but mere empty words. Well this is interesting. I believe you answered my question about the astrological predictions a day or two ago so maybe you can help me with this. I was intrigued by the April 19 date having possible significance to Muslims so I did a search to try to confirm that it was indeed the date of Mohammed's death. The date I came up with was June something-or-other, but then that's probably because they use a different calendar and on any given year the date of his death could be anywhere on our calendar. So, I tried to find the Islamic date & see that he died on the 12th of Rabi al-Awwal. Back to the previous question you answered for me. Wasn't there mention of Rabi I which you interpreted as Moses (In that context I assume it is similar to the Hebrew "Rabbi" meaning teacher). Is it possible that this was actually a reference to the first of Rabi al-Awwal? When would that be? Where would I find a 2004/1425 calendar? Am I completely off track? Too much caffeine today & really weirded-out by the implications of what has happened in Spain.

Thanks!

"It's going to be a long and tedious war whether Osama is captured or not."

Also worth repeating.

I will never forget seeing, not too long after 9/11, one of the news magazine shows did a segment on (in essence) "Who are the Afghanis, who we are getting ready to invade & kill, etc.". They took the cameras into a classroom full of what looked like middle school aged boys (no girls, hmmm), who were studying physics. They interviewed one of the boys and asked him what he would think if America captured or killed Osama. He became very animated and said, "it doesn't matter! If you kill Osama, I will be Osama. There are thousands more Osamas."

Anyway, I agree that we are in for a long haul, whether the majority in this country are ready to admit it, or not. Especially worrying is how the majority in Spain just rewarded bad behavior over the weekend. I would anticipate more attacks just prior to elections in this country, and in our allies, in an effort to repeat their "success".
