WASHINGTON (CNN) -- This week's deadly train bombings in Spain will not lead to a rise in the U.S. color-coded terror threat alert system, a Department of Homeland Security spokesman said Friday.

"Based on the current intelligence, we have no specific indicators that terrorist groups are considering such an attack in the U.S. in the near term," said department spokesman Brian Roehrkasse.

Yeah, I think we all do knak. All the incidents along I-95, the fire in Richmond and now the 911 system going down in NY.

On a slightly more positive note, I'm now in the OBL is dead or captured camp. With 3 consecutive tapes from AZ, it looks like OBL is no longer available to comment.

Just FYI....it isn't unusual for the 911 system to be down in NYC or Pennsylvania.

Verizon is always have trouble with the system.

Wasn't there something around the SuperBowl time with 9-11 systems? I thought this came up back then with a mention of the NW and then also something in Texas? Maybe I'm confusing things...I can go back and look and see if I can find that...were we at the 2nd thread back then? Let me see if I can find anything else about the phone thing, unless someone else remembers that?

Our enemies must know that the media will downplay any instances of destruction. None will dare call it "terrorism" unless it becomes obvious. While I personally view today's events as markedly alarming, others may question why our ememies would use such unspectacular and low-intensity tactics.

These tactics make sense to me. All of the Islamist have been called to participate in Jihad. Each person will do what they can.

If they don't cause death and destruction, they won't go to heaven.

Thanks for that info Cal. Fortunately, I've never had to call 911. If Verizon can't handle something as important as the emergency system, why are they in control of it? Rhetorical question, I know :-)

More weirdness at Yellowstone: Might be nothing, but is in that Norris area where the Buffalo roamed. Seems this thing is way active, for some reason.

The very fact that trails, campgrounds and areas of the park are closed to tourists is indicative there are concerns about thermal activity. The expansive bulge in Yellowstone Lake, death of fish and wildlife, increased eruptions and other geological changes seem to be minimized.

My husband and former brother-in-law were at Ape Caves near Mt. St. Helens the weekend before it blew. There were no warnings or reports as to what was to come one week later on May 18th. Certainly they would not have gone to that location had they any knowledge that an eruption was imminent. Reassurances from park officials do nothing to convince me that they have any control over what the mountain will eventually do of it's own accord.

Yes. I think, if there is one more bridge or tunnel to NYC "cut off" it will become obvious to even the sheeples that something threatening has begun.

The 911 failure- could be part of the AQ plan.
Remember that pic of NYC with the mushroom cloud ?

I'd like to know what the witnesses to the 95 crash actually saw happen.

On a Positive note: To maximize damage, I don't think "the grand finale" would be scheduled for a weekend.

At the same time, if it is AQ-related- they would not want to wait too long after hemming in the city- to attempt the "final phase"

Verizon has a history of problems with a switching station at East 30th Street, east of Fifth Avenue. The 911 system is always on the blink. Not good; but historic.
