Threat Matrix: Daily Terror Threat - Thread 5
CNN ^ | March 12, 2004

Posted on 03/12/2004 8:23:06 PM PST by thecabal

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- This week's deadly train bombings in Spain will not lead to a rise in the U.S. color-coded terror threat alert system, a Department of Homeland Security spokesman said Friday.

"Based on the current intelligence, we have no specific indicators that terrorist groups are considering such an attack in the U.S. in the near term," said department spokesman Brian Roehrkasse.

I am having to share my computer with my husband.UGH!!! He has something on ebay. New laptop is on the way so problem solved by end of week.

I agree hate the sin but love the sinner. I am just so upset and feel completely helpless. We talk all the time about what could happen. The times we live in are unbelievable. Just 3 short years ago we would have never dreamed that terrorist would be the topic all the time.

I have been mad most of the time but I am getting real bad feelings now, like the straw that broke the camels back, just don't know which straw is going to set it off or if we are just doomed.

LOL. I decided, about 3 threads back, the only way we'd get out of this mess alive, will be through God Almighty. :) I've been trying to read, study, repent, and live right, since. :)

I've also been buying survival things, just in case. Have a place ready to run to. I've been a busy person. :) Now, have supplies on hand in case running isn't feasible. My vehicles have full gasoline tanks, supplies in boot, water and some extra stuff. :)I have my safe room picked out, plastic cut to fit doors, windows, air vents. Have a checklist of things to do immediately, like turning off ac/power, etc, because I KNOW I won't be able to think. Have a checklist of important things to take with me if I have to go. Need to organize those things and put them in close proxmity. I dunno.

Hard to be really prepared. I need more stuff. :)

We have done pretty much the same. We don't think we will have to leave. Water from springs are everywhere and may have power (so they say living so close to a dam) but just in case all that race car stuff my husband has will come in handy like generators, battery chargers etc.

One neat thing I got some time ago was a US Army Survival Manual. Has all kinds of tips in there. The will to survive, medicine, field expedient weapons and tools, wild plants for food even pictures.I think I got it from amazon... great book!!!

Of course my kids and family think I'm nuts. If we can make it pass the election and GW is elected I will feel allot better. Until then I will be right here every chance I get.

Yellowstone's Explosive Secret

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyoming, March 23, 2004

Online doomsday scenarios are swirling all over chat rooms telling visitors to stay away. Yellowstone, they warn, could blow.

(CBS) For years, CBS News Correspondent Sandra Hughes reports, scientists have tried to understand the dynamic nature of Yellowstone National Park.

"It's beautiful up here, everybody should see this at one time or another," says one appreciative observer.

Scientisth Lisa Morgan may have unlocked one piece in the puzzle, deep below the park's biggest lake.

"It is kind of the last unmapped frontier in Yellowstone National Park," says Morgan.

What she found looks more like the surface of the moon. Using sonar she's identified a massive bulging dome the size of seven football fields. The only other underwater dome in Yellowstone was the site of a major explosion.

"The most extreme event, which occurred 13,800 years ago, went about as far as five miles away from source," says Morgan.

It spewed boiling water, steam and rocks, and the fear of it happening again started another explosion of sorts: this one on the Internet. Online doomsday scenarios are swirling all over chat rooms telling visitors to stay away. Yellowstone, they warn, could blow.

Yellowstone National Park sits on top of one of the most active volcanoes in the world with more than 10,000 vents, geysers and bubbling hot springs. That's part of the reason more than 3 million people come here each year.

So for Morgan it is important to clarify. She doesn't think the big dome is ready to explode, but park ranger Hank Heasler says Yellowstone is unpredictable.

Your thoughts?

Question of Nukes in Taiwan

According to this article, Taiwan, although promising not to do nukes, may have them on the back-burner, despite promises to the contrary.

Sean: Do you have anything on this?

Russia Growls at NATO Air Patrols on Borders

Nothing has changed about Russia in the past 45 years other than the illusion that Russia is more of a democracy than it used to be. The democracy of Russia seems a bit on the touchy side lately testing it's launching capability and acting in a threatening manner about NATO planes. I guess the "citizens" there don't trust us much.

The word 'democracy' itself means 'rule by the people.' A democracy is a system where people can change their rulers in a peaceful manner and the government is given the right to rule because the people say it may."

In the 1950's I was running topless under the backyard sprinklers and believed in Santa Claus. My how times have changed. Just tell it like it is (like you always do) and let your family accept you for the wise woman you truly are. You, by the way, will be prepared for everything within your power. I have no doubt of it!

Three years ago, or so, my brother had to go to Russia quite a bit (business). He hated it, would never stay longer than he absolutely had to. Said it was so corrupt and you just had the feeling you couldn't trust anyone and he usually doesn't say those sorts of things. Said he would prefer to go to Africa than Russia again.

Al-Rantisi vows to fight Israel 'everywhere'

Wednesday 24 March 2004, 4:26 Makka Time, 1:26 GMT

Al-Rantisi will now head Hamas in Gaza

http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/A9DB5EAC-B709-4196-9CF4-24D5AB188BC4.htm

Abd al-Aziz al-Rantisi has taken over as the new leader of Hamas in Gaza following Israel's assassination of the group's founder.

On taking over the mantle from the assassinated Shaikh Ahmad Yasin, al-Rantisi vowed that Israelis "will not know security" and threatened to "fight them everywhere."

Al-Rantisi called on the military wing of Hamas - the Izzadine al-Qassam Brigades - to "teach Israel a lesson".

Call to strike

"We tell the Izzadine al-Qassam Brigades: you must teach a lesson to the enemy. The door is open for you to strike all places, all the time and using all means," al-Rantisi said, addressing thousands of supporters.

"This enemy must come to the realisation that we fear nothing," he said.

Hamas supporters responded chanting, "We will sacrifice our blood and souls for you".

Senior Hamas official Ismail Haniya had earlier announced that al-Rantisi had been chosen as the official deputy to Shaikh Yasin before his death.

Abd al-Aziz al-Rantisi

"As a consequence, Dr al-Rantisi will take over from the shaikh as the head of the movement," he said.

Smooth succession

Al-Rantisi confirmed his appointment, saying "during its last meeting, the consultative council confirmed Shaikh Yasin as leader and elected me as deputy and therefore, according to the statutes, the deputy replaces the leader if he is eliminated."

Khaled Mashaal, a Hamas leader based in Syria, still heads the group's political bureau, the main decision-making body.

A senior Hamas official said on condition of anonymity "the successor to Shaikh Yasin is the internal leader while Khaled Mashaal is the head of the overseas political bureau."

Meanwhile, occupied Gaza Strip and the West Bank continued to mourn the death of the wheel-chair bound Shaikh Yasin.

Schools, universities and businesses are closed, reported Aljazeera’s correspondent.

Israel was on heightened alert for retaliatory attacks. Security has also been boosted at Israeli embassies around the world.

I watch the pickups and SUVs fly by me at 80 MPH on the backroads and am amazed so many people buy these low mileage dinosaurs eating gasoline at $1.75 a gallon for their 12 MPG rigs. The signs are all there, wars are in progress, countries are at edge with each other, shortages are here. All I see on TV auto shows are bigger and bigger gas guzzlers. Perhaps I am just out of the loop, but continuing to buy vehicles that have low MPG equates to supporting the terrorists IMHO.

I'm watching Mosaic Middle Eastern news (english version) and the segment from Lebanon would be comical if the situation wasn't so serious. The al-queda terrorists are referred to as al-queda fighters; the Americans keep killing more and more women and children, etc. Their coverage of the Israel/Palestine situation is quite unnerving. "Israel is playing with fire", "Israel is asking to be undone", etc. I need to stop watching Mosaic News this close to bedtime.
