Threat Matrix: Daily Terror Threat - Thread 5
CNN ^ | March 12, 2004

Posted on 03/12/2004 8:23:06 PM PST by thecabal

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- This week's deadly train bombings in Spain will not lead to a rise in the U.S. color-coded terror threat alert system, a Department of Homeland Security spokesman said Friday.

"Based on the current intelligence, we have no specific indicators that terrorist groups are considering such an attack in the U.S. in the near term," said department spokesman Brian Roehrkasse.

That "cry blood not tears" thingie, sounds like biological nasties to me. Ties in with their "death to every household in Israel" belchings. God, I almost hate those radical devils!

I don't suppose that 4515sb thing could be a street address in Yemen? Sounds stupid. Just trying to figure out what that could mean!

What a scumbag!

Cockroach more aptly - he is attempting to spread his vermin anywhere they will listen. CBS should be ashamed - they are as non-partisan as the Move-On group.

But Bush critic told '60 Minutes' Sunday there was 'absolutely' no evidence 'ever'

We can all reward those biggoted newsstations by obtaining our news elsewhere. They will be obsolete soon enough anyway. Thank God for the internet and the ability we have to glean the facts from the fiction they would have us believe.

Clarke claims in a new book, "Against All Enemies," that President Bush ignored the terrorist threat before September 11, 2001.

Mr. Clarke can justify anything in his mind that he wants to justify. Doesn't mean it's correct. Second time I've had to say it this week: Liar Liar Your Pants are on Fire.

It seems like I read that. I know it was discussed here, but I'm not sure why.

These two developments don't sound good. Wednesday, Mar. 24, 2004.

Russia Warns America Over Caspian Sea The Associated Press

The United States should not interfere in talks on delineating the oil-rich Caspian Sea, a top Russian diplomat said in an interview published Tuesday.

The legal status of the inland sea -- believed to contain the world's third largest reserves of oil and gas -- was governed by treaties between the Soviet Union and Iran.

But since the 1991 Soviet collapse, the five states that border the sea -- Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan -- have repeatedly failed to reach a new five-way agreement.

"The countries of the Caspian region should settle the problems by themselves, in a family way, so to speak, without attracting mediators," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Viktor Kalyuzhny, a presidential envoy on the Caspian basin, said in an interview published in Nezavisimaya Gazeta, adding that "the external factor will only cause problems."

Last month, U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld emphasized U.S. interest in the Caspian region during a visit to Kazakhstan, noting that its security is important for the entire world. The United States is also planning upcoming military exercises with Azerbaijan in the Caspian.

"One should understand the essence: U.S. interest toward the Caspian region has to do only with oil," Kalyuzhny said.

"Imagine if Russia said it had interests in the area of the Great Lakes and even appointed a special envoy there -- how would the White House react to that?" Kalyuzhny said, referring to the U.S. envoy to the Caspian region.

And also this one here (didn't Russia just recently complete large-scale nuclear war simulations, and even more recently successfully test fire two missiles? ) 2004-03-22 19:59 * RUSSIA * DEFENSE MINISTRY * FLEET * EXERCISES * RUSSIAN BLACK SEA FLEET TO HOLD MAJOR EXERCISES MOSCOW, March 22 (RIA Novosti) Major exercises will be held on the Black Sea Fleet, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said at a meeting of the president with government members. "A major exercise of a formation of surface ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in interaction with aviation groups and units of the fleet's coast guard will be taking place from March 22 to 27 under the guidance of Black Sea Fleet Commander, Admiral Vladimir Masorin. The Black Sea Fleet press service said the main aims of the exercise will be the improvement of commander and staff training, and practicing tactical groups' interaction while performing combat tasks. The exercise involves about 20 combat ships, the fleet's aircraft and helicopters, 10 auxiliary ships, over 100 marines and 30 pieces of coast guard battle vehicles. en.rian.ru/rian/index.cfm...do_alert=0

I've been expecting China to put moves on Taiwan for quite a while. If it does, we've already got our troops occupied, so they'll be virtually unopposed to moving in on them. We can warn them, but they have nukes and attitude. Would it be worth provoking them? If they do a takeover, about the only recourse we'd have is to avoid the upcoming Olympics in China as a gesture of displeasure. What's your take on this situation?

Israeli helicopters fire on gunmen in south Lebanon, killing two

By HUSSEIN DAKROUB Associated Press Writer

3/23/2004 5:04:00 PM

BEIRUT, Lebanon (AP) -- Israeli helicopter gunships fired on gunmen in southern Lebanon late Tuesday, killing two and wounding one, a Lebanese security official said.

The official said the helicopters opened fire on Palestinian guerrillas who had fired rockets toward Israel from Wadi Sluqi, about five miles north of the Israeli border.

In Israel, a statement from the Israeli Defense Force said the air force hit a "terror cell" that had set up rocket launchers aimed at Israel.

"The IDF will act insistently against any force that uses terror and supports the use of terror against the residents of the state of Israel."

The attack came a day after a short flare-up in south Lebanon between Hezbollah guerrillas and Israeli troops following the assassination of Sheik Ahmed Yassin, founder and spiritual leader of the Islamic militant group Hamas.

In addition to Hezbollah, the main militant

force in south Lebanon, Palestinian groups are also known operate in the area.

The Lebanese security official said the wounded Palestinian guerrilla was taken into custody.

While Lebanon's government strongly supports the Lebanese Hezbollah, it has opposed Palestinian guerrillas using southern Lebanon to attack Israel. Palestinian attacks in the 1970s and early 1980s brought harsh Israeli retaliations, including two full-scale invasions.

It was not immediately known which faction the guerrillas belonged to.

I almost hate those radical devils!

My father forbid us to use the word "hate." It was permissible to use the phrase "I dislike them intensely." I have to agree now with my departed Dad, hatred is being just like them.

State Department Issues Travel Warning for Iraq, Saying Threat to Americans There Remains High

The Associated Press

WASHINGTON March 23 — The security situation in Iraq is dangerous and the threat to all Americans there remains extremely high, the State Department said Tuesday.

Remnants of the deposed regime of President Saddam Hussein, foreign terrorists and criminals remain active in the country, the department said in a notice warning Americans not to go to Iraq.

There is credible information that terrorists have targeted civil aviation, the statement said.

Sad to say, I think that we would not rush to defend Taiwan were China to strike. We highly praised China's so-called "assistance" with North Korea. Letting them take Taiwan unimpeded by the US may be a trade off. (Ie- China helps with NK;we guarantee no intervention regarding Taiwan.) Just a thought.

There was a time Taiwan had nukes. I believe I read somewhere (probably the FAS site) that they had gotten rid of them.

Your thoughts?

Oorang I have never considered carrying a gun to the grocers or to the mall. But in the case that one did carry a concealed gun in such venues, I'm not sure how effective that would be in the case of an unexpected, unsuspected suicide bomber.

I think God agrees with you...

Amos:5-13: Therefore he who is prudent will keep silent in such a time; for it is an evil time.

14: Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so the LORD, the God of hosts, will be with you, as you have said.

15: Hate evil, and love good, and establish justice in the gate; it may be that the LORD, the God of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

Psalm 97:9: For thou, O LORD, art most high over all the earth; thou art exalted far above all gods.

10: The LORD loves those who hate evil; he preserves the lives of his saints; he delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
