TV News Runs Hot for Kerry, Cold for Bush

NEW YORK, March 11, 2004 - Mainstream news organizations may "filter" the news, as President George W. Bush claimed late last year, but not to omit good stories from their Iraq coverage, but to broadcast more negative news about the president himself, according to a report released today by MediaChannel.org and Media Tenor.

The report reveals a strong negative cast to ABC, CBS and NBC news coverage of the president thus far in 2004. Meanwhile, Senator John Kerry, Bush's certain opponent for November, has received more positive coverage by the same three networks.

According to data compiled for MediaChannel.org by international media monitoring firm Media Tenor, network news broadcasts in January and February contained on average nearly three times more negative news statements about President Bush than about Senator John Kerry.

I agree with you about their venerability.... The Bush campaign is just beginning to take actions and start laying the foundations for their campaign. They will make mistakes at times along the way and hopefully they will correct them. The hard core of each party isn't going to be swayed by any ads as you know but I suspect most of the undecideds aren't paying that much attention to things at the present time.

Seven Months is many eternities in the realm of political elections.

This is NOT a right wing website. If anything it is a lefty site.

The "Advisors" to the source are mostly college professors (and we know which way they vote) - and Danny Glover and Patricia Ireland.

Some things never change. Media bias is one of them.

Yep maybe one of them investment type things that sell shares.... Who knows. I could see Rumsfeld being interested in a ranch but not Rather.....

You would think, especially after Saddam's capture, that Rumsfeld could pack it in, go out on top and settle down in that ranch in Taos, N.M., that he co-owns with, among others, Dan Rather, TIME reports.

Well, sometimes the contrarian that I am, I have a different view. Rather than the networks being hopelessly biased, I think the numbers generally reflect the play of events during the subject period, although no doubt at the margins there is bias. Specifically, I would expect that given that while Kerry was demolishing his opponents, Bush during the period gave only an average SOU speech, and performed only fair in his interview with Russert, the Kay report came out, the unemployment numbers remained sluggish and the deficit projections ballooned, nothing much positive came out about Iraq (now something has with the place signing off on a draft constitution) and team Bush was keeping its powder dry until Kerry had a lock on the nomination, one would expect Kerry would have a much more favorable press than Bush during the subject period.

It will be interesting to see that stats for the next two months given that Kerry has hit a negative patch: Kerry gave a suck victory speech (too long, too droning, too cliched and too mean spirited), Kerry refused to back off his calling Republicans liars and crooks per an intrusive mike, team Bush has opened up on Kerry, and unsettling stuff is now being released on Kerry in a drip, drip fashion.

Yeah, yeah, I know all that.:-}

But we have something to wack them over the head with in the months to come which will have a leavening effect on their inborn bias.

This is a chess game amigo. LOL

Speaking of Kerry .. ads.. and raising money

Have you seen this

John Kerry Raises $10 Million in 10 Days Online

$10 miliion in 10 days huh?? .. Why does this remind me of Dean?

I wonder how local those funds are?

Oh and check out the new rapid-response portion Kerry has .. kind of reminds of how the Clinton's worked .. now Kerry is calling Bush a flip flop?

You're back! Took almost an hour break I see.

But unfortunately I'm bored and I'm going to make a snack and try and find something on TV to watch.

Or fortunately for those that bear the brunt of my wrath! lol

I find it interesting how quickly they had an ad ready to go. I don't know about ad production, and maybe I am a bit paranoid, but is it possible to get an ad that sophisticated ready in ONE DAY? Could it be that once again we have a mole in the ad agency?

I'm not an expert in this area .. but the Kerry Ad seemed like a bunch of cut and paste to me .. so I would think they could put it together pretty fast

HOWEVER ... the speed in which they were about to get it out to the stations across the country and getting word of it in the news media was pretty fast ...

Actually .. it was REALLY fast in my opinion

It's possible about a mole
