No...actually, the big one scares off the coyotes, and as a bonus, he and the little one share whatever cats stray into their yard.

That guy's buddies will be having a field day over his hysterics!

The real problem is that if it could be a dog, it could be a child. Parents must be doubly vigilant. I don't trust coyotes; human or animal, day or night.

Good deal. I enjoy having coyotes around and hearing them howl in the evenings, but I really enjoy having them behind the crosshairs.

That guy's buddies will be having a field day over his hysterics!I have a feeling he has no buddies, which explains his behavior. It's very sad actually.

When my sister lived in the Rockies, everyone had a roof on their dog runs to keep the mountain lions out.
My brother in law was driving once and saw these old people in a motor home pulled off the road and very distraught. An eagle swooped down and grabbed their dog when they let it out to pee.
Somewhere a liberal is saying this is Bush's fault.

Perhaps it is just you?Perhaps, but I don't think so.
It is just an observation of abnormal behavior for an adult. An indication of some problems characterized by a lack of proportion, etc.
Sorry if I offended you, I feel sorry for the person, I'm not mocking him.

Happens pretty regularly here in the Phoenix area. Urban dog/cat control.

A coyote that will snatch an 11-pound dog and jump over the fence with it, will consider an 11-pound human infant to be an even tastier treat, if it can get to the kid.

Wouldn't be a problem if goddam hippies would let us shoot the wiley bastards.

I hear that ranchers out West have started keeping llamas and ostriches around their sheep to fight off coyotes We have coyotes here in Vermont, and a lot of the farmers (particularly ones with sheep) use llamas to guard their herds. Llamas are ferocious when it comes to defending the group they've identified as family.
I don't know about the ostriches - its' a little cold up here to leave them outside full time, though some people do keep emus.
We've had coyotes in the backyard - heard them sort of laughing, sounded like hyenas.

This person has serious problems IMO. Nah. He just loved his little dog.

A couple of these would solve any Coyote problem.
Norwegian Elkhounds tend to have a innate antipathy toward coyotes.

Thanks Shermy, I have always enjoyed Ian Fleming's posthumous opera, especially
Coyotes in Valhalla
But these Westchester suburbanites need not fear. There is a splendid historic pet cemetery nearby, that is, if the wily coyotes left enough of the deceased to inter. I agree that the bereaved should immediately obtain another, more suitable dog, preferably a breed that's easier to spell. We freepers should take up a collection to buy them that Pit Bull that bit the Santa Barbara councilweenie in the gluteus maximus.
As these coyote variants spread through the Northeast, pet owners should switch to breeds better able to defend themselves. If local gang members cannot supply enough Pit Bulls, I recommend my personal favorite, the Preso Canario-Rottweiler-Chow-Hyena-Wolf Hybrid. A couple of these and the neighbourhood should be free of coyotes AND gang members, not to mention other possibly superfluous neighbours.

Am getting ready to move my livestock and the animals that attack most often are domesticated dogs that roam and eventually pack up. Once they do that, they kill. of course, dogs are easier to kill with a rifle than a coyote.
I'm considering getting a Great Pyrenees. They are good protectors of sheep, goats, etc. and although they will not chase a coyote or dog once it is out of "their" flock area, they will come up to repel a predator, and attack to kill if necessary.
