Why? It may not effect his base support, but I think middle-America will find something disgusting about a man who was even a part of a group that would vote to assassinate American politicians. This will also lend more credence to the argument that the VVAW was more than just a dissenting organization...and was actively participating in undermining American security. At the very least, it is one more brick in the wall.

Four years ago I was working on a novel that sadly went unfinished. The scenario may be playing out right before our eyes.

Hillary Clinton is preparing to take a coronation at the convention after Kerry falls. She has had to spend no money. There are no soundbites from other RAT candidates attacking her. She would only have to run a very short campaign. It is her dream scenario.

Bingo. 25% of the population would willingly campaign for Satan himself for President, rather than see Bush re-elected, but the rest of the country would be pretty upset with Kerry's lackk of moral judgement.
