I "like" this theory better. Kerry has to know that, if he puts the Hildebeast on the ticket that every Republican currently lukewarm about Bush will suddenly be crawling over broken glass to see him re-elected. Kerry would be energizing Bush's base for him.

But a SCOTUS slot would not have to be announced in advance and it would give the beast the opportunity to go down in history as the First female Chief Justice.
