[history]
One man was killed and another wounded Tuesday afternoon when a shooting between two groups of men sent sun worshippers diving for cover at San Francisco's crowded Ocean Beach.
Witnesses described how the two groups -- who police believe are gangs from Daly City and Oakland -- clashed in the beach's parking lot along the Great Highway at 3 p.m. Those in the larger group of five or six men pulled out a knife and a screwdriver, and then a gun, to attack the smaller group of three men.

Just a little riff on the Jounalism 101 rule to never mention the race of crime perpetrators unless they're white ... "That's my homeboy!"

An unfortunate incident- glad more weren't hurt.
Missing from the article is a description of the firearm- AK47 with infrared scope and armor piercing bullets, no doubt.
The reporter probably thought too many saw it to get away with that.

"The beach is where people come to have fun.'' That's what the homeboys were doing, having fun.

Rule #2: If SUVs were present, the headline wording will be something like, "Gunfire Erupts from SUVs at Ocean Beach".

Give the reporter a break. At least this is a change from stories about drive by slapping.

"This is San Francisco....shouldn't they be biting, pulling hair & scratching?"Did you read the article? They were "Homeboyz" from Oakland. I'm guessing they had special sights installed on their Glocks:

Did you read the article? No, of course not. Anyway, it was a comical observation with regard to the city not, in particular, the story.

Rule #2: If SUVs were present, the headline wording will be something like, "Gunfire Erupts from SUVs at Ocean Beach".Heard on local San Francisco TV during a news break:
"Ocean Beach, still reeling from President Bush's environmental policies, was the scene of a gunfight between unemployed men driving SUVs. Local San Franciscans blame Bush economic and gun policy for the incident. Story at 11."

This is San Francisco....shouldn't they be biting, pulling hair & scratching? You don't want to be caught showing the wrong gang colors.....like lavender and teal, or fucia.....

This is San Francisco....shouldn't they be biting, pulling hair & scratching? Things have changed. I frequent that same beach perhaps a dozen times a year. In the past, me and my wife have witnessed gang fights, and it never involved gunplay. Guys would throw garbage cans down on someones head, or hit them with bottles or pipes. The biting, pulling hair and scratching doesn't happen at the beach - that's the Sunset district where real men live. The other crap is in the Castro district.

Is it important for you to know their race or what? Sure.
Race, height, weight, identifying marks, color of car, license plate, etc.
To: TheMole
Well, I run by there every morning before work. Recently, it seems like there are more and more spots along my daily workout route where someone has been killed.
There are also problems with Russian/Ukrainian gangs.
The homeless people and their unleashed dogs are a big problem, too.
