Well, that's a darn good question... I've always considered myself a feminist in the older and wider sense of the word-- I like women, and I think they ought to be treated equally.
The modern feminist movement, IMO, got co-opted by a pile of man-hating, marriage-hating, baby-hating harpies, and is a bad parody of its former self.
As far as the mags go, they exist to sell advertising, and most of what the ads peddle is fear and insecurity.
