My promise is this. "I swear that if he get this illegal alien license bill thru I will never vote for a repubo in Cal again." And I won't. On top of that, after getting as many more democrats elected in the Sacramento legislature as possible I will be leaving this rat hole state for Nevada or Texas.

Allen,

Why has it taken you so long to realize California has so much to offer liberals? Besides, I've already beaten you to Nevada. And I'm originally from Texas. So, you picked two good states.

I share your frustration, but for those of us left, I can't say I'm happy about your proposed solution!

I'm curious... what did the Workers Comp flyer say?

So you were dumb enough to vote for Schwarzenegger instead of a real Republican like Tom McClintock, and THEN you blame the GOP as a whole?

If you're that feckless, Nevada deserves you.

This issue keeps coming back, despite the public's distaste for it.

Why?

In the last couple of days it has become known that Schwarzenegger has started working with the democrats in the Cal legislature to put together a referendum proof bill that gives illegal aliens valid drivers licenses.

What the heck is a "referendum proof bill"?

I just do not understand why you people are missing the point!

I could not legally drive in Germany, untill I had passed a training course and drivers test, and paid for a special international drivers license.

It was not a picture ID, it was an additional official government document, that when added to my existing USA drivers licsense, certified that I could legally operate a moving vehicle in Germany. It expired on the date of my expected departure from the country.

I am not aware of a single country that does not require a drivers license to operate a vehicle.
Why would any state in the USA issue a state licence to an illegal alien?
I have traveled extensively throughout the world, and within the USA.
I am only required to change my drivers license when I intend to live in a different state in the USA for over 90 days.
I lived for two years overseas, and did not get a German drivers license.I got legal permission to drive in Germany, but it was a separate and distinct document.
If California issues drivers licenses to illegal aliens, I think Florida, and every other state in the USA, must respond by requireing all California drivers license holders to cerify themselves separately as legal drivers prior to operating a motor vehicle here.
A simple mechanism already exists to allow tourists and temporary residents to legally drive in the USA.
Why do you need to reinvent the wheel?

Heard State Senator Tom McClintock on the radio today and he said that he could not imagine even one Republican in either chamber voting for this bill. Because it would require a 2/3's majority to pass as "urgent" legislation, it would require approval by six Republicans to pass in the Assembly and two Republicans to pass the Senate. According to McClintock, it ain't gonna happen.

I like his analysis of the background check provision of the new bill. "A background check will determine whether an applicant is in the country legally. If they are here legally then they don't need this bill and if they are not here legally then federal law says they should be deported, in which case they also will not need this bill."

Giving an illegal alien a license that then opens doors that previously were accessible to only citizens

Legal aliens (of both the resident and the nonresident types) in CA can already get CA drivers licenses and ID cards. No citizenship necessary -- just proof of legal residence or presence, proof of identity, and a SSN (or a letter from the SS office excusing you if you're not allowed to get a SSN, such as for foreign students).

Current law only prohibits illegal aliens from getting licenses.
