Obviously it's a survival tactic on Bin Laden's part. Since he's got a hefty price on his head, if he's captured by the Pakistanis, he could be executed on the spot, or, at the very least, be tortured. He knows that he will be treated well by the US forces and kept alive for trial. After he's convicted of heinous terrorist crimes and sentenced to death the loony left will petition the courts and world opinion to spare his life. Yep, much better to face American rather than Middle Eastern justice.

I don't know whether we're interested in bringing him to trial. Would it be wise? I suppose we have to figure out which will damage worldwide terrorism more - bin Ladin alive and being dragged to interrogation, or bin Ladin's carcass propped up for the cameras.
I'm glad we took Saddam prisoner. It was much more humiliating. But bin Laden I just don't know.
