This seems to be a very old article.
Time does not dilute truth!
Sounds good! ;>)
The author of the article asked if I could republish it - she felt it was still applicable and should be disseminated widely
It was originally published in 2001
Here is part of an email with the author...
You were the FIRST homeschooling mom in TEXAS?????
In modern days, of course! I started in 1972 and taught the kids for 15 years.
How did the gal find out you were the first one in Texas?
We've known each other for a long time. I had already been teaching our four kids for years and was pretty well known in home school circles when in 1986 I was asked to became one of the original board members of the TX Home School Coalition, which her husband and another man (now dead) started. As Chet's business took us to different locations, I taught in TX one year, then Arizona one year, then Missouri 5 years, then MT 5 years, then back to TX for the last few years until our youngest went off to college in the fall of 1987. In the days when I was more active I gave talks around TX and other places in the United States and once in Europe to military parents. I've testified before the legislatures or boards of education in those states. I self-published the first book on how to get started in homeschooling (now out of print); it went to English-speaking countries around the world, incl. to missionaries. I wrote for several newsletters and magazines, and I've written articles that are chapters in other authors' books. Our oldest son was a witness in the "Leeper case" that confirmed the legality of homeschooling in TX. He was the first person in Texas who had been homeschooled through Jr. and Sr. High School, accepted into college, and graduated. He got his BA and MA from TX A&M, then went on to VA Tech for more advanced courses. Two of the other kids are college graduates, and the fourth had some college and then married. We have 16 grandchildren -- so far!
Here are three of my articles. The others I've never submitted to the Internet, which I probably should.

The first video Bev is making will be very short and will be shown at the Book Fair in May, she said. Then she will add to it to become a history of Texas home schooling up to the present. It probably will be available, but I'm sure it will be many months before it is complete. She said it took her 6 hours of editing to complete a couple of minutes of raw footage.
