[history]
Pick up the Yellow Pages and go to "Guns." Call the first gun store you find. Ask what you'll need to purchase a semi-automatic military-style sniper rifle like the one used by John Allen Muhammad and John Lee Malvo to kill 10 people during their 2002 Washington, D.C.-area murder spree.
"You have a driver's license?" said the man at the Long Island store I called yesterday to ask about buying the assault rifle known as the Bushmaster XM-15.
"Sure," I said, "but what else do I need to bring?"

There is so much wrong with this article that I don't know where to begin. Our military's standard issue is the AK-47? And it is "highly accurate" from a half-mile? And that Malvo an Mohammed were shooting from 500 yards?
And even worse is that the editor and "fact checker" were even more ignorant than the writer!

You guys just have to see the kind of pap the left is feeding the public.

So so wrong.
The AR-15 Bushmaster could never be mistaken for an AK-47. It's like saying the F-16 is a knockoff of the Japanese Zero.
And if you can kill someone from 900 yards with an AK then you must be firing straight down on them from a 900 yard high cliff.

"Our military's standard issue is the AK-47?" The author probably means that his army is equipped with AK-47's.

"Nothing else," said the man. "Just money." I see you are not familar with the Bill of Rights. In fact, I have a hunch you are not even familar with what a right is.

Like hearing a 3 year old give a lecture on superstring theory.
Though less funny, cause these people are dangerous about our rights.

Our military's standard issue is the AK-47?Don't forget, this is a "journalist"; our armed forces are not the same as his. His "our" is the PRC or NK army.

Hundreds of court cases have set the precedent that the police do not have a responsibility to protect an individual. But society as a whole. This was established to remove the burden of law suits based on the failures of police officers to protect the citizenry. If the Government does not take responsibility for protecting its citizens on an individual level. Then it is criminal to deny the rights of individuals to protect themselves.
Furthermore, liberals don't want the American people armed when their communist coup d'état is achieved.

Typical unfounded scare tactics. FWIW, I went to a gun show a few weeks ago and bought a rifle. The guy turned out to be a licensed dealer. I filled out the usual federal forms and noted that the social security number is now optional. The guy took the form and my driver's license and went off to a phone. In about five minutes he was back with the approval.
The antis would have you believe that gun shows are weapons bazaars for terrorists. Not true. Not to mention it's common knowledge, at least for those who know the truth, they're cruised by the ATF.

This was published? Bushmaster = AK-47? Bushmaster deadly at almost 900 yards? I used to shoot 40 of 40 in the Army and I don't think I could do that with an M-16.
Come to think of it, Malvo was an idiot for having that be his weapon of choice for a sniper rifle. He could have done much better with a cheap 30.06.

I was thinking paperwork - perhaps to verify my clean criminal record, my relative sanity, the lack of any documented connections between myself and al-Qaida.
Uh, dude, the Brady background check covers that part - you know, the process that you anti-gunners demanded a few years back. Now you pretend it doesn't even exist. But, then again, what else can you expect from a nitwit who believes that the AK-47 is the military's standard rifle?

The Bushmaster, a version of the military's standard AK-47 rifle, was the kind of gun they had in mind: highly accurate, extremely deadly from almost a half-mile away. There's half a mile between this guys brain and his head. And the network connection is extremely lousy.
