I can't think of a single aspect of our lives which has not, in some way, been effected by 9/11, yet now I'm supposed to believe that the man who has dedicated himself to making sure it doesn't happen again is wrong for mentioning it.

Well put.

i'm reminded of a scene from "Animal Crackers" when groucho and chico are trying to play cards. one player leads, and chico yells "Hey! you can't play that card!"
"why not" asks the other player, "Cos we cant' take it" sex chico.

I see the same thing going on here - the reps can't play any card that the dems can't take - not without a lot of whining and yelling by the dems.

I remember the "outrage" over the campaign photo Bush had because he was on the phone talking during 9/11. It is such a manufactured, foolish story.

I know the press wants Kerry in, so they will do anything to smear Bush, but this just seems so idiotic.

Vietnam was such a national tragedy, with thousands of people dying, if all things were equal Kerry shouldn't be allowed to mention that either - especially since he was on the "evil America Jane Fonda" side. But fairness has nothing to do with this mess.

Remember the media's mantra - Democrats good, Republicans bad. That is the only thing that explains the totally uneven, biased coverage.

The September 11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrows are outraged because they are being paid to be outraged by Mrs. Kerry and The Tides Foundation.

The reaction of these SEFPT families is going to be devastating for the Kerry campaign this year -- the whole incident is blowing up in their face.

What these people don't realize is that most Americans who live more than 50 miles from Ground Zero think they are arrogant, narcissistic pains in the @ss. The gall of these families is unbelievable. They talk about "exploiting tragedy," and yet that is exactly what they've been doing for the last two and a half years -- as if their personal tragedies give them the authority to dictate future land uses at Ground Zero, the content of campaign advertisements, etc.

NPR has a guy that's been critiquing political commercials for the last 15 years or so. I heard him yesterday talking about the ads. His comments: "Wow!" Basically, he found them incredibly "optimistic" and patriotic (I think he used that words) and even though it was hyperbole, he meant it as a compliment not an insult when he said he was ready to vote for Bush based on the ad.

The biggest disaster to happen on Clinton's watch was the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, which Clinton politicized to the hilt--trying to make everyone on the right share the opprobrium directed at the "Michigan militia" types.

Bush, by contrast, tried to unite the country after 9/11, and did not point out how it was a consequence of Clinton's feckless reaction to earlier terrorist attacks or his refusal to accept the handover of Osama bin Laden. Clinton, for his part, took advantage of Bush's courtesy (helping him get back to the US before regular commercial flights resumed) by rushing to Ground Zero ahead of the President.
