Too Much Ambition

If you are familiar with the works of William Shakespeare, you know that Macbeth was one of his characters. Macbeth wanted so much to be king that he resorted to murder—and he paid for it with his life.

We are like that tragic character when we let our ambitions cloud our thinking and forget who is really in control of our lives. We don't use evil methods to achieve our goal, but we do allow ambition to cloud our thinking about the sovereignty of God. Instead of leaving matters in His hands, we take them into our own.

Another example of too much ambition is found in the conversation James and John had with Jesus in Mark 10. Their goal was to sit in the positions of greatest prestige and power in the kingdom. And because they weren't content to wait and see if Jesus would bestow that honor on them, they boldly requested it. They were too impatient to leave the whole matter in His hands.

Ambition is not always wrong. But when it consumes us so that we can't wait for God, we display a lack of faith as the disciples did.

When we submit our goals and desires to the Lord, we can be sure that He will give us what is best. —Dave Branon

While we'll have many chilly nights before the end of April, we're beyond any really bad winter weather now. We have seas of daffodils, other bulbs and tiny white phlox blooming, flowering trees, dogwoods soon to be - and The Return of The Birds.

The latter are in a feeding frenzy, some jockeying to get the best spot for a nest, and singing around the clock.

The best soon will come, with waves of Bradford pear trees throughout the South a sea of white, and azaleas draping the landscape.
Time to tidy up and prepare flower beds, and decide the plants for the year - - -

I am making an effort to recognize all of my fallen classmates. There are many of you! It has been a long time since the days at Fort Rucker in Class 67-3. I remember how excited we were when we got those wings! I bet that you are looking down here and wondering what the pilots of today are thinking as they go off to war. No matter what anyone ever said, you died for a noble cause. You were called and you went! You are a Hero!

Joe was a true leader and an outstanding pilot. An inspiration, Joe was the type of individual who knew no fear. He was an exceptional athlete who enjoyed playing handball. We played a number of games together during our tour at Marble Mountain. Joe's death was a shock to all of us who knew him. I had the pleasure to meet Joe's son a few years ago in Pensacola. I know Joe would be proud.
