Texas FReepers, the purpose of this thread is to inform you how to get involved and influence the Texas Republican Party Rules and Platform.
On the night of March 9th, you will have the opportunity to attend your precinct meeting which takes place sometime after the polls close and usually at your polling place. In my area, the meeting is set by the county party for 8PM. You're mileage may differ, so call the county party or look for a sign at your polling place, March 9th. Make sure you vote and get your voter's registation card stamped Republican or get one of those cards indicating you voted so that you can participate in the meeting. They may also have a voter's list indicating that you voted.
The Precinct Meeting is the first step in electing delegates and passing resolutions to go to the next level which is the County, Senatorial District Conventions and then on to the Texas State Republican Convention. At the meeting, put your name on the list to go to the next level. Also bring along resolutions(make 3 copies) to be read and voted on so that they can be passed onto the next level.
From the Texas Republican State Rules:
Rule No. 21 - Agenda for Precinct Conventions
The agenda for each precinct convention shall include the following order of business:
a. Call to order at the appointed hour by the precinct chairman or other participant if the precinct chairman is not present.
b. Preparation of a list of and announcement of number of qualified participants present.
c. Announcement of agenda and basic rules of procedure.
d. Election of the permanent officers of the convention by majority vote.
e. Announcement of county or district convention and of temporary committee meetings, if known.
f. Election of delegates and alternates to county or senatorial district convention, as the case may be, by majority vote, and certification of eligibility of each delegate and alternate by the precinct convention secretary, where the primary voters list is available.
g. Resolutions.
h. Other business.
i. Adjourn.
Rule No. 22 - Chairmans Responsibilities
a. Record of the Precinct Convention: The Permanent Chairman of the Precinct Convention shall be responsible for seeing that an accurate written record (minutes) is kept of all convention proceedings, including the list of persons present and their residence addresses and a list of delegates and alternates elected to the county or Senatorial District convention with residence addresses including towns shown thereon. A signed copy of this written record shall be available for copying by any participant in the convention for a period of thirty (30) minutes immediately following adjournment of the convention. Upon request, the permanent chairman shall certify any correct copy.
b. Transmittal of Precinct Convention Minutes: The Permanent Chairman of the Precinct Convention shall sign and safely transmit to the county chairman no later than the third day after the date of the precinct convention or deposit in the mail not later than the second day after the date of the precinct convention such record (minutes) and a copy thereof. In multi-district counties, the County Chairman shall deliver the original record to the temporary chairmen of the Senatorial District conventions. The copy shall be public record.
As far as resolutions, feel free to share any resolutions you may have on this thread. You can also look at the Texas Republican Party Platform for ideas.
It would be great to see hundreds of FReepers at the State Convention in San Antonio in early June. Have fun and make a difference.
For the rest, make sure you vote and attend you precinct meeting March 9th. Get on the list to go to the next level and we can discuss strategies on getting to the State Convention on another thread.
Please forgive the statewide ping.(I try to use it sparingly.)
I look forward to a big FReeper gathering in San Antonio in June. Hope to see ya there!
Thanks for the ping

The Most Powerful Office In The World Is NOT The President of the United States!
If you are the only one there(look for the packet and follow directions or), write your name down as having attended, write your name down as a delegate, attach your resolutions, and take it to your county party.
Thanks! Although I had hoped for more participation in them here they ARE, never the less, instructive.
I hope others find them useful as well.
As SOON as I can discover who the members of the platform committee are to be for our upcoming convention this summer I will send them your link. They might well find our exercise useful.
Here are mine:
1. Since the current income tax system and the proposed flat income tax require withholding from the paychecks of individual tax payers, reducing their spendable income and reducing their personal control over federal government spending; and
2. Since the current income tax system requires individual taxpayers to prepare annual tax returns using many complicated forms, where innocent errors will happen and are heavily punished; and
3. Since the current income tax system actually punishes marriage and the family, the very foundation of our country's moral strength, and
4. Since our Founding Fathers knew history showed income taxes gave government too much power over citizens, so the Founding Fathers specifically outlawed such taxes in the Constitution; and
5. Since a national retail sales tax is consistent with the Founding Father's description of ideal tax systems (Federalist 21), is constitutional, and ends any direct, taxpayer/tax collector relationships between citizens and the federal government. Citizens pay taxes to sellers of goods and services; only the seller has the direct relationship and sends the tax collected into state governments; and
6. Since indirect taxes - such as the FairTax (HR 25/S 1493) - will end withholding, increase each individual's spendable income, and increase their personal control over government spending; and
7. Since indirect taxes will remove all individual taxpayers from federal tax rolls, eliminating all reporting by some 120 million taxpayers, reducing both the size of the federal government and its role in citizens' lives;
We, the Republican Party of ___________________(state, precinct number, political subdivision) urge the Party to maintain the exact wording from the 2002 Republican Party of Texas platform document:
Federal Tax Reform - The Internal Revenue Service is unacceptable to the U.S. taxpayers! The Party urges that the IRS be abolished and the Sixteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution be repealed. We further urge that the personal income tax, inheritance (death) tax, gift tax, capital gains, corporate income tax and payroll taxes be eliminated. We recommend the implementation of a national retail sales tax, with the provision that a two-thirds majority of the U.S. House and U.S. Senate is required to raise the rate. Such reforms will encourage investment and economic growth. Lastly, such a sales tax plan must ensure no one in America pays taxes of any kind on the necessities of life, ensuring opportunity and quality of life for low and fixed income Americans.
A) Since marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and is the foundation upon which successful families, communities and nations are built; and
B) Since God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between a man and a woman who are lawfully wedded as husband and wife; and
C) Since children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity; and
D) Since the principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities are the building blocks of solid families; and
E) Since parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, to teach them to love and serve one another, to obey the commandments of God and to be law-abiding citizens wherever they live; and
F) Since the disintegration of the family brings upon individuals, communities, and nations calamities which are sore to bear,
G) We, the ______________ Party in Precinct _____, in ____________________ county in the state of _________________ call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to:
H) Ensure that lawful marriage remains a bond between a man and a woman; and
I) Protect unborn children from unnecessary abortions; and
J) Promote abstinence outside of lawful marriage and fidelity within lawful marriage; and
K) Promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society; and
L) Hold parents responsible for the care of their children, especially in cases where a family has suffered from divorce and in cases where the parents were not married, including enforcing court ordered child support payments; and
M) Refine tax regulations to remove financial penalties from married couples and from families who sacrifice the income of one parent to allow them to stay at home and raise their children; and
N) Oppose benefits provided to lawfully married couples being extended to domestic partners who are not legally married; and
O) Oppose all attempts to weaken or destroy the family, including no-fault divorce, desertion, pornography, homosexuality, adultery, and numerous forms of civil government interference and control over the family.

Is it different for Michigan?
