March 6, 2004 -- U.S. Education Secretary Rod Paige - in hot water for calling the National Education Association a "terrorist" organization last month - received a standing ovation yesterday from nearly 1,000 members of the Black Alliance for Education Options in Milwaukee. The Black Alliance - which supports charter schools, home schooling and other educational reforms aimed at helping black youth - remained on its feet for five minutes after Paige was introduced, one participant told Post State Editor Fredric U. Dicker, adding, "Everyone I talked to agreed with him that the NEA is an obstacle to education reform. So when a man tells the truth, he needs to be supported."

I had never heard of Rod Paige until he made his statement about the NEA and I had no idea what race he was until I just read that he "received a standing ovation yesterday from nearly 1,000 members of the Black Alliance for Education Options in Milwaukee."

I did a Google on him and my suspicions were confirmed.

Would Rod Paige have "received a standing ovation yesterday from nearly 1,000 members of the Black Alliance for Education Options in Milwaukee" if he were white? Would he have even been invited to speak to this group?

Before the AM removes this comment, consider this. Who is the racist? Me or the Black Alliance for Education Options in Milwaukee?

Blacks won't be converted from the Democrat plantation by whites. They must do it themselves.

I think this helps explain why Rod Paige was attacked so savagely by the media. Because, like Clarence Thomas, he is a man who has dared revolt against his Democrat masters.

I'd love to see a transcript of Paige's entire speech that included the "NEA leadership is like a terrorist organization" comment. I've heard that Paige was flattering of teachers and the teaching profession just one sentence later, and said that teachers were the footsoldiers in a "war on illiteracy."

So what are the odds any appreciable number of those standing O-er's will actually VOTE for people who believe in homeschooling etc? You know, vote for Republicans?

Yeah, that's what I thought.

Let's check back with these applauders in the generation or so it will take for tham to realize that the people they vote for don't believe as thay do.

There are MANY in the black community who despise what the NEA is doing to their children.

Unfortunately, their side of the story is never told.

Instead, the Jesse's and Al's blame racism for all of the problems in the black community, instead of stressing education and personal responsibility as a means to an end.

I don't think race has more to do with this story other than the Lamestream press has underreported the support in the black community which supports charter schools, home schooling and other educational reforms. I gotta wonder if the NY Slime, NPR and the Washington Post will report the standing "O".

Actually, there's a pretty good chance. Homeschooling among black families is experiencing a huge upswing. You could do a search and read about it.

Maybe it's you. This group is organized because of their strong views on these issues. I suspect they would have applauded anyone who appears to be on their side.
