LONDON, March 6 (UPI) -- A London psychologist says a new study indicates people -- both men and women -- are willing to take more pain when it is administered by a female.
David Williams of the University of Westminster told the New York Times the severity of pain can be influenced by outside factors, such as who is inflicting it. He said of the 40 people in his study, all waited longer to say "stop" when a woman caused the pain.
"A person's perception of pain doesn't necessarily depend on the intensity of the stimulus," Williams told the New York Times. "The stereotype we have of women is that they are nurturing, caring, sensitive, that they have empathy. We feel safer with them."
He also found when people were denied control, they felt the pain as more intense.
By saying, "This is going to hurt a bit, try to hang on," doctors may actually make a patient believe they have no control over the situation and, thereby, feel more pain, Williams said.

"A person's perception of pain This illustrates the power of our belief system. Mind over matter. Fascinating.

I guess this explains Hillary's political career.A separate study for pain inflicted by a dominatrix would be needed to explain the "Hilary effect."

I had a female MD once who was Vietnamese. She also had long fingernails. Under certain circumstances, I accused her of being Viet-Cong but said I'd tell her anything she wanted to know.
