Limbaugh Lawyer: Treat Rush the Same as Addict Judge
NewsMax ^ | 3/5/04 | Limbacher

Posted on 03/05/2004 7:36:02 PM PST by Tumbleweed_Connection

Rush Limbaugh's lawyer Roy Black says his client deserves the same consideration Palm Beach County prosecutors gave to a judge suffering from the same addiction that afflicted Limbaugh.

Commenting on the revelation that Palm Beach County Judge Robert Schwartz -- who was addicted to OxyContin, the same drug Rush was addicted to -- was never prosecuted let alone investigated.

The recent case of Judge Schwartz has made national headlines, including NewsMax.com's report: Limbaugh Persecuted, Addicted Judge Skates.

Black issued a statement late Friday demanding equal treatment for his client.

Said Black "After admitting an eight-year addiction, Judge Schwartz entered treatment voluntarily and was praised by the community, not investigated and never prosecuted by the Palm Beach State Attorney's Office. This was sensitive and appropriate for someone facing such a difficult personal challenge. All we're asking is that Rush Limbaugh be treated the same."

They should...they should also treat Arthur Anderson's and Enron's scoundrels at least the same way as Martha Stewart
imo

Ouch. Didn't the judge lose his job over all that?

Barry Krischer is on the horns of a dilemma. He can either prosecute Rush and it looks crassly partisan or he can offer him the same deal given the judge and leave Democrats steaming. What's a Democratic State Attorney from Palm Beach supposed to do?

He was hooked for 8 years but was still able to make make decisions from the bench during those 8 years. I wonder if he heard any drug cases ?

I sympathize with all of them. I've been on prescription painkillers (Percocet) and they're very nice. My most recent doctor wouldn't give me any after the last baby, and he was probably right; it would be overkill.

I don't know, but I do know that some junkies live a long time if they can avoid an overdose. Opiates don't seem to be as destructive to tissues as alcohol or some of those crazy amphetamines.

Maybe Rush should just get on the air one of these days and ask Governor Bush for a pardon so that this whole mess can be brought to a speedy end. ;-)

Concernng treating the Enron scum in the same manner they are treating Martha Stewart I do believe the Enron folks are copping pleas that result in many more years in prison than the worst Martha could face.

If I read your concern correctly, you are maybe suggesting Martha is being treated more harshly than others who caused more economic damage ~ but what we have here is someone who had a seat on the New York Stock Exchange, and she cheated, lied and stole.

That probably caused a 2 or 3 point dip in the Dow, and maybe as much in the S&P 500 when she was caught.

We are talking about tens of billions of dollars in losses suffered by widows and orphans.

I say put her away for the maximum time possible, and if possible find even more charges to pile on. Never let this woman out of court, or jail. It's a good thing.

Palm Beach County State Attorney Barry Krischer refused to comment Friday on the Judge Schwartz/Limbaugh confusion.

I believe Krischer is the guy who said that he was going after Rush because he received so many e-mails urging him to.

Perhaps a few e-mails from Dittoheads might be in order.

We are talking about tens of billions of dollars in losses suffered by widows and orphans.

Forgot your sarcasm tag? They only suffered if their brokers were idiots, and sold at the very minute that the market suffered a dip due to Martha.

"Buy and hold" is the basic winners' strategy (e.g., Warren Buffet) in the stock market, and all the little blips due to actions such as Martha's make no difference if investors are thinking long-term.

Enron or WorldCom are a little different, because the pattern of distortion in their financial reporting caused whole industries to flip out ... but that's still a reflection of bad thinking on the part of management across the board. People earning that kind of money should have used better judgment. It's not investors like Martha Steward who should be paying ... it's the managers who did the damage, and most of them have just walked away.

What an immense travesty of those entrusted by the people to carry out their constitutional duties. What we see instead are a lot of self-serving political animals who are more interested in persuing their own personal political vendettas and witch hunts rather than follow the law.

Martha Stewart is small pickings compared to the team of Bill and Hillary Clinton. But look who gets tossed into jail. And how can we forget our old pal, DNC dictator, Terry McAuliffe. Didn't he sell his large share of World Com stock before it plunged?

Now a Judge working for the people in Palm Beach County gets a pat on his back while the same county officials are plotting every underhanded scheme to find something to nail Rush Limbaugh with.

Not to mention a certain female Florida State Legislature Senator got off with just a tad too much praise for cleaning up her perscription pain medication addiction.

Florida Lawyers Assistance, Inc. is a non-profit corporation independent of, but funded in part, by The Florida Bar in response to the Florida Supreme Court's mandate that the Bar create or fund a program to identify and offer assistance to its members (Bar Rule 2-9.11 Pg. 24). Paramount to FLA is the protection of confidentiality for those attorneys who contact FLA for help. Confidentiality in voluntary cases is protected by Bar Rule 3-7.1(o) (Pg. 18), by a written contract with The Florida Bar which guarantees the confidentiality of FLA records, by Chap. 397.482-486, F.S. , and by other state and federal regulations. Judges, attorneys, law students, and support personnel who seek the assistance of FLA need not worry that FLA will report them to the Bar, the Board of Bar Examiners, or their employer. Information is shared with these entities only if the participating individual signs a waiver of confidentiality. FLA's primary purpose is to assist the impaired attorney in his or her recovery.

Well...according to press accounts...toward the last year of the 8 years, he just sat around his office and refused to serve court. Thats when everyone started making jokes about the guy and the political bosses got scared.

As for the DA...his entire case is now fryed. He can't go after Rush and expect the case to pass the legal process. They already allowed precident in this case. Rush will get community service time and have to prove treatment. Of course, this won't close till November....but, thats the way things work in Florida. Did it help the Democrats in Florida to do this? No...it now makes them look like fools. So they need to work on putting more dead people on the voting books again.
