An explosive device detonated in the basement of a Jewish school in Moscow on Friday, the Interfax news agency reported. No injuries were reported in the blast, though a number of windows in adjacent buildings were shattered from the explosion.
Ahead of elections, scheduled to take place in Russia in ten days, security measures were beefed up across the country, due to fears of a terror attack. The United States embassy in Russia urged its citizens in the country on Friday to stay away from public areas and keep a "low profile."
The embassy listed three central places that it recommended that its citizens avoid in the coming days, including Moscow's central church, the main mosque in the capital, and the city's main synagogue, which is adjacent to the Kremlin.
