Damnation, but you've hit several nails on their collective heads. (Get it? "Collective"? Please forgive the late night, warped humor...)

But really, you're exactly right. In fact, it was around 1998 or so when the CPUSA named as their Woman (and I use the term loosely) of the Year none other than...Hillary!

Wish I could find the source...

Excerpt

The slogan "six-hour day, no cut in pay" will catch on. The trade union movement will continue to grow. Strikes will be longer and more difficult. And finally - we predicted this one last year, but the numbers were so good in 1998 that I want to try again - new members joining the Communist Party and the Young Communist League will double in 1999.

Annual year-end awards And the winners are:

Corporate Hog: Bill Gates and Microsoft

The Grinch Who Stole Christmas Award: Boeing Aircraft for its holiday layoff announcement.

Man of the Year: Sam Dash, formerly Ken Starr's right-hand-man, who had the courage to quit and expose Starr's witch-hunt.

Woman of the Year: a tie between Hillary Clinton, who nailed the "get-Clinton" vendetta as "a vast right-wing conspiracy," and Susan McDougal, who served 18 months in prison for refusing to lie about the Clintons.
