On Sunday evening, 300 leading members of the Jewish community in Berlin, Germany, took part in a grand dinner organized by Chabad.
Local shliach Rabbi Yehuda Teichtel held his audience spellbound as he related what his grandfathers reaction was when he first took on his shlichus: At first, my grandfather asked me, How can you possibly go back to the place where all my family was murdered? Then, after a few moments of reflection, he observed: Actually, this is the greatest revenge you could possibly have upon the Nazis. Go there in peace, and I hope you will be very successful in spreading Yiddishkeit and Chassidus throughout that accursed country!
That evening was a clear demonstration of Chabads triumph over the Nazis. Present at the dinner were the mayor of Berlin, the Israeli ambassador, and the leader of the local Jewish community.
Regarding Chabads success in Berlin, the facts speak for themselves, as Israels Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Yona Metzger, told the assembled crowd. 3310 Mezuzos have been put up in Jewish homes around the city, over 1000 Jewish children in schools both religious and public, attend monthly lessons on Jewish festivals, and 100 men have resolved to put on Tefillin every morning, including the president of Berlins Jewish community.
