Multnomah County makes over $25,000 issuing same-sex marriage licenses

(Portland-AP) -- Multnomah County made over $25,000 after issuing 422 marriage licenses, mostly to gay couples.

The most populous county in Oregon made $25,320 Wednesday.

Previously, county officials say the most marriage licenses issued in one day was 68.

Governor Kulongoski cautioned that the marriages may not be legal. He cited the state's 140-year-old marriage statute. It defines marriage as a "civil contract entered into in person by males at least 17 years of age and females at least 17 years of age."

Kulongoski said the 19th Century writers clearly suggested marriage was a union between men and women.

I wonder what the hue and cry would have been if they titled it "Multnomah County makes over $25,000 on Queer Taxes"?

If income is supposed to justify the lawless action of same sex marraiges, then someone should point out to them how much they could make

1) issuing concealed weapons permits
2) sales tax on assault weaons which average about $1000 per gun.

They could make a killing right there.

Sorry, "assault weapons" should have been in quotes since that term is politically and emotionally loaded and has no real meaning in terms of the function of a gun and danger of a gun nor the danger it represents. It just means they are "scary looking."

Wonder how many County Executives will hear of this great new "revenue source" and suddenly be in favor of gay marriage?

The state should fine county officials for at least double that if not ten times.
