PHILADELPHIA - As each hour passed, Michael Eisner's voice grew more hoarse.
Disney's annual meeting yesterday was painful to watch.
Eisner remained poised, though it was obvious he was exhausted from the weeks of politicking to save his job.
During a question-and-answer session late in the day, Eisner began answering a question and his voice cracked.

During a question-and-answer session late in the day,
Eisner began answering a question and his voice cracked. "I can't even speak. Bob [Iger, Disney's president], will you answer that question?"
Aw, Eisner's a (sob) victim (blech).
For Eisner to act the damn "victim" at this stage of the game is monumental hypocrisy. Eisner feeds his sick ego even when the future of Disney is at stake. This man is seriously disturbed. He needs professional care.
This is an incomparable victory for Roy Disney, Stan Gold, and the millions of Americans who watched Eisner corrupt Walt Disney's vision. Eisner and his band of moral dwarves sucked the magic out of the Kingdom of Disney.
Eisner is going, going, gone.

Did you go to the meeting?
What's your sense about Senator George Mitchell, the Clinton "peacemaker"?

The day Eisner turn this place into "heaven" for gays, marked his downfall.
Eisner himself is to blame for his troubled waters.
To: Liz
Maybe his fall from his earthly kingdom will be the impetus to his seeking the heavenly one.

We can hope so, but I frankly doubt it.

Mitchell? Oh please, don't ask. Amazing this guy is in this position. Wonder what he had to do to get it? (/snicker)

The 43% of shares that were actively voted against Eisner is actually a substantial MAJORITY or shares that were actively voted. All shares not voted by some deadline (like 10 days before the meeting) are presumed to vote with management.

43% represents something like 725,000 shareholders. Roy was expecting 20%, was shooting for maybe 25%.This is huge.

Why is he struggling so to hold onto his job, where he is clearly not wanted? He's rich enough so that he would never have to work another day in his life. If I had that much money I'd retire gracefully and spend the rest of my days happily working for charity. He acts as desperate as a man whose family would starve without his pathetic wages.

What do we really know about Senator George Mitchell?
"....in addition to his full-time career as a practicing lawyer, ex-Senator Mitchell serves on far too many other boards to permit him adequate time for his Disney commitments. (It is worth noting that many of the other companies on whose boards he has sat have experienced significant financial, legal, and governance problems - among them Xerox, U.S. Technologies, Oily Rock Group Ltd. and Staples Inc.).
"Moreover, within the last several years ex-Senator Mitchell has served as a paid consultant to the Company and his law firm has received more than $1 million in fees from The Walt Disney Company." -Roy Disney
"In a letter to congressional leaders, Mitchell said he stepped down [from the independent commission investigating the September 11 terrorists attacks] because he does not want to sever ties with his law firm, which he said he had been urged to do to avoid a potential conflict of interest, and because the commission's work will take too much time.
"Some have urged that I sever all ties to the law firm with which I am associated," Mitchell wrote. "Since I must work to support my family I cannot comply."
-CNN, Ted Barrett and Jonathan Karl,Wednesday, December 11, 2002
Senator Mitchell served on the boards of several companies that have had financial scandals: Xerox, US Technologies, Staples and the Azerbaijan oil venture.
"BOTH BILL BRADLEY AND GEORGE MITCHELL ignored President Clinton's scandal problems during their speeches at the September annual Jefferson-Jackson Celebration for the New Hampshire Democratic Party. But Bradley, a former U.S. Senator now considering a run for the White House, told reporters that this is "a sad time" in our nation's history. "Any time the President lies he undermines his own authority and he squanders the public trust," said Bradley. Bradley said he would have to make a decision "internally" by December on whether to run for the Democratic nod for President. Most analysts feel Bradley can't raise the millions necessary for a viable challenge of front-runner, VP Al Gore. Former Senator George Mitchell hailed the accomplishments of the Clinton Administration and the Democratic Party." -Politicallibrary.com

I guess the family got used to all the perks and privileges His Highness Mitchell gave 'em courtesy of the US taxpayers.
It's been said that once these criminal masterminds get into public office, they never once spend a dime of their own money. They figure out all the ways to soak the taxpayers for their expenses.

As I said above, he's ego-driven. For this guy, heading Disney is an enormous ego trip. He's mentally disturbed. Needs power to define himself.

>At the end of it all, a stunning 43 percent of shareholders that cast votes yesterday voted "no" for Eisner
Yeah, but he's still there . . .
Some companies -- remember
Wang?! -- would rather die
than take decisive
action that really brings change.
Disney needs to change . . .
