Tiger Woods tees-off 1000ft up Dubai hotel
Tiger Woods has driven off from the most unusual tee-box in the world - a helicopter landing pad 1000ft up a Dubai hotel.

Woods teed-off two-thirds of the way up the Burj Al Arab Hotel.

He was taking some time out of preparing for the Dubai Desert Classic event.
The seven-star hotel is higher than the Eiffel Tower and is built on a man-made island. Woods hit the balls into the Arabian Gulf below.
Woods pulled out of the Desert Classic last year over fears of attacks in response to the US' war on Iraq.

A spectacular hotel! Toured shortly after it opened. (Traded a tour of the Carrier I was on for a tour of the hotel!) It is built in the shape of a sail and the companion hotel (not seen) is built in the shape of a Dhow. The pool you see in the background is a waterpark.
Rates start (2001) at 850 US and each comes with a butler. Way Cool!

I've seen it on The Travel Channel (Which by the way, I think will be the cause of the end of civilization).

It doesn't say how far he hit the ball. With that much elevation off the tee, Woods could probably hit a 600 yard shot.

You couldn't pay me enough to take my family for a vacation in the Persian Gulf.
No one goes there except for commercial reasons.
For example, do they sell beer on Sundays?
I rest my case.

Woods could probably hit a 600 yard shot Probably not more than 400 yards. Eventually forward motion ceases due to wind resistance and the ball will drop straight down. Daly might reach 450, Davis Love III about 425.

who wouldnt wanna dive off that with a parachute I used to jump, and I remember the maxim that 'altitude = life'. 1K' is a bit too low for me, unless there's a really good reason to jump it.
Way too many heart problems to do that sort of thing anymore.

??? It went at least 1000 feet down. Trig the hypotenuse and you can get the total distance. I am sure it went further than 400 yards.

If you dropped it from orbit it would go at least 100 miles, ignoring that it might burn up. Is hole distance measured along terrain or is it adjusted to the horizontal?

I used to jump,
Me too but once I realized I still fell 2 feet short of the rim I decided that God had other plans for me. Since I still haven't sprouted wings, it obviously ain't flying.......
