Jody, Every Soldier's friend.(Humor)

When I was a young trooper, there was a person that we were all aquainted with, his name was Jody. Jody moved in with our girl friends, ate steak, smoked our cigars, wrecked our car, drank our booze, and spent our allotment check.
Jody seems to be an Army thing, the Germans have Billibob, the Frogs have the white flag, the Air Force their Mothers, the Marines their Right Hands, and the Navy each other.
Jody goes back, in Army tradition, at least a hundred and Fifiy years, Who is Jody? Does he look like John F'n Kerry, the black guys in my Units seemed to have have a Jody problem more than, say, those, Polish, from Pittsburg, who is Jody?

He's a character in several Army cadences.

We Marines had a Jody!
In fact, when we learned Pugil Stick fighting, we learned the JODY KILLER technique!!
Fortunately, I never had to use it.
I always thought it was a 60's thing, that name Jody is so feminine, I cannot imagine someone naming their child Jody earlier than the 50's.

Here's ya some Jody info...
http://users.erols.com/loriryan/history.html ..."Nobody seems to know for sure when the Duckworth Chant became known as the jody call. In fact, nobody's even sure who "Jody" is. In the many cadence calls that disparage Jody's name, Jody is the guy back home, trying to court a soldier's wife or girlfriend or sister. And as more women joined the ranks, Jody also came to represent the woman out to seduce a husband or boyfriend.
In either case, Jody is a civilian enjoying the comforts of home while the soldier sweats it out in the field or overseas. And soldiers love to console themselves by singing about Jody: "Ain't no use in going home; Jody's got your girl and gone. Ain't no use in feeling blue; Jody's got your sister, too. Ain't no use in lookin' back; Jody's got your Cadillac..."

BATTLEGROUND, that great post war film about the 101st in the Bulge ends with James Whitmore as the "crusty old sgt." leading what's left of his platoon to the rear as fresh troops pass. He calls cadence that tells the story of "Jody". Where it came from pre-1940s I don't know.

When I went through USMC boot, we had a guy in our platoon whose best friend actually was named Jody, and he really did move in on his girlfriend.

Electric and I were at a Town Hall meeting Last Night and one of the people there was named Jody, not a good name in my time, besides the Marines were always famious for the solitary sin.

Ahem ...
The Navy, with deference to our esteemed USMC D.I.s, calls them 'jodies' as well. If they got it from the Army, then props to y'all as well.
And as I recall, more often than not, it was the AF guys hanging out at our clubs as the ships deployed, who started moving in on the 'WestPAc Widows' as soon as the stern lights began to fade on the horizon ...

Consider posting those two pictures in reverse order. It would then account for Jody #1's expression. Caption it "Mr. French, Mr. French, come and see, come and see!"

SFC Anita JordanThere weren't no Anita's in any unit I was in, those with bumps hid behind a fence, those that didn't have bumps were in LBJ.
