I really do not understand the excitement over water on Mars. I suspect it has something to do with evolution, but I am not sure.
Well, it's pretty much agreed, that no water means no life. But then some people make the illogical and risable assumption that if there's water, there's pretty much got to be life. They're like the three-year-old I came across when I was in kindergarten who was holding a dead robin by the beak with one hand and pouring water down its throat with the other. I asked him what he thought he was doing. He said he was going to make it come alive. Yeah, if you can't have A without B, the presence of B doesn't guarantee the presence of A.

AGAIN.,..I'd bet the house it is a Trilobite fossil and I think NASA knows damn well it is but elitism wins and they keep it to themselvs.

Any critter or evidence of a critter found should be totally different from anything we have here on earth. OBJECTION your Honor! Conjecture! Good chance it would be very very similar due to proximity and conditions in the past. That trilobite fossil in the pic sure isn't "very different!"

I see possible crinoid stems. I also see the "crinoid" as outlining an incomplete skull and a chin with teeth below. No I haven't been drinking!

Hopefully, I will remember that it is on and hear it. I missed the last few times he was on. :-(

Mars may indeed have a rocky molten core, but with no current geothermal activity at the surface and very low average surface temperatures, that suggests to me that any current subsurface water would be frozen for a considerable depth. Actually, I think it's unknown at this point if surface geothermal activity exists.

No scale is shown, but the object you refer to appears to be small. Compare it to the calcareous algae of the genus Halimeda (underlined).

It was fun while it lasted .. hope they have some other pics up soon.. Looks like this discussion of life now or in thepast will be going on for awhile.
They'll have to drill pretty deep to find any water, hundreds of feet probably,, could there be some forms of microscopic life still kicking on the innards of Mars?
Stay tuned to the same BatChannel and BatStation, kiddies ..
Are there any known caves or such in any of the larger geologic formations, I wonder. No shortage of stuff to explore, for sure. Send more rovers and some 'nauts.
Thanks for all your ping work.

I just watched a replay of the press conference. Squires was saying that the rocks around opporunity would be ideal for preserving fossil evidence, hmmmmm... I wonder if they are thinking what we are thinking, but holding it close to the vest until they can study it further....
